. BAG AND BAeraAME THEREFOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAn GREENBAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Bags, and Bag-Frames Therefor; and I do hereby declare the following to be full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains-to make and use the same, reference being had-t0 theae companying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I This invention has reference, generally to improvements in that class of bag-frames which are employed more especially in con' nection with ladies hand bags, chatelaine bags, and the" like; and thepresent invenreference-character 1 indicates complete hand-bag made of leather, or other suitable, material, the referencecliaracter 2 indicat Y ;ing the front and back face-portions vof the bag-body, Suitably. sewed or otherwise. se-f cured. at their marginal edge-portions 3 to the end-pieces or gussets a. I
tion has for its principalobject to provide a neat and simply constructed bag frame, .in
which the side or leg-members of the hinged or 'pivotally connected frame-sections. are made with slotted or cut-away parts, near the corners of the two frame-sections, there by allowing fora full complement of the mouth-portion of the bag-body attached to the frame-sections, and also providing for a full expanse of the bag-body, the marginal side-portions of the bag-body extending to. the outer edges of the side or leg-members of the frame-sections, so as to entirely cover the same, and at the same time entirely doing away with the usualwrinkled and unsightly. upper corners of the bag-body attached to the frame-sections.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly. enumerated will be clearly understood fromthe following detailed description of the present in vention. l
1 With the various objects of the present invention in view, the invention consists, primarily, in the'novel bag-frame hereinafter more particularly set forth; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangement and combination of the bagframe and the bag-body attached thereto, wherebythe results herein-above mentioned are obtained, all of which will be described in detail in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims which are appended toand which form an essential part of said specification.

A FIRM COMPRISED OFAIBRAHAM Patented Oct. 20,1914;
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings,in whichz F1gure 1 1s a front face view of a hand bag and a frame-section to which the bag body is attached according to the principles frainesections and the bag-body being represented in their opened relation; and Fig. 4.
is a verticalsectional representation, on an. enlarged scale,sa1d section being taken on line 4 1 in B 1g. 2,.look1ng 1n the direction of the arrow a'. o
S1m1lar characters of reference are employed in the sald above descrlbed views, to
Referring now tothe said drawings, the
The bag-frame properconsists of a pair 60. :of the present invention; and Fig. 2is a I front view of the bag-frame, with thebag-1 body omitted from said view. Fig.3 is an :end view of the bag-frame and bag-body attached thereto, the hinged or pivoted of metal frame-sections 5, each frame-section .COlllPIlSlIlg an upper or top' member 6, ex-,
itending horizontally, and a pair ofside or leg-members 7, extendingin downward directions from the respective end-portions or The respective side or leg-members of the two frame-sections 5 are pivotally connectedv I :m any usual manner, as at 9,'and the upper ortop members 6 ofsaid framesections are provided with any suitably constructed lookng means for retaining the I frame-sections in their closedrelation, the .locking means tures 11 for the attachment thereto of a,suit-,- able hand-strap 12, in the manner repre-" sented in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.
frame-portions which are U-shaped incross5 section and to thereby provide the usual Y chambered portions 13 in which the edgeportions 14 which surround the mouth of the angles 8, as shown in Fig. 2 of; the drawings here shown beingin the form of. retaining .orholding knobs, as10 One of the frame sections is also provided with the usual fix portions of the bag-body being arranged in .said slots or cut-away parts and extending bag-body, as well as the edgeportions 15 of the respective gussets are respectively arranged and permanently secured in any usual manner.
Referring now to Figs. 2 and lof the drawings, it will be seen, that the said side or ,leg1nembers 7 of each frame-section 5 are provided in their upper portions, near the corners or angles 8 of the bag frame, with slots or cut-away parts, as 16, bound by the straight marginal edge- portions 17 and 18, and the convexly curved portion 19.
When the edge-portions 14 of the bagbody have been secured in the chambered parts of the upper or top-members 6, and the edge-portions 15 of the gussets have been similarly secured in the chambered portions of the side or leg-members 7, the parts 20 of the bagbody, where they are secured to the gussets, are arranged in and extend from the said slots or cut-away parts 16 with Which the side or leg-members 7 are provided; This arrangement of these various parts allows 0f the fiat arrangement and connection of. the upper portions of the bagbody to the two frame-sections of the bagframe, as represented in Fig. 1, thus obtaining the full complementof the mouthportion of the bag-body and at the same time entirely over coming the usual wrinkled and unsightly condition of the upper corners of the bag-body; and, furthermore, the possible tearing out of the bag-body at the corners of the bag-frame and from the upper or top-member 0f, the frame-sections is entirely avoided. It will also be evident, that by this means the side or leg-members of the frame-sections are hidden from view, so that thereby a 'neat and handsome construotion of bag is the result.
1. A bag-frame consisting of hinged frame-sections, each frame-section comprising an upper or top-member and a pair of side or leg-members, said side or leg-members being formed with slots or cut-away portions, combined with the bag-body and gussets of a bag, said bag-body and gussets being respectively attached to the upper or top-members and to the side or leg-members of the frame-sections, and the upper corneroutwardlytherefrom, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A bag-fra1ne consisting of hinged frame-sections, each frame-section comprising an upper or top-member and a pair of side or leg-members, said side or leg-mom bers being formed with slots or cut-away portions, said slots or cut-away portions being bounded by straight edge-portions and I Copies of this patent may be obtained for tached to the upper or top-members and to the side or leg-members of the frame-sections, and the uppercOrner-portions of the bag-body being arranged in said slots or cut-away parts and extending outwardly therefrom, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. A bag-frame consisting of hinged frame-sections, each frame-section comprising an upper or top-member and a pair of side or leg-members, said upper or topmember and said side or leg-members having sides forming U-shaped chambers, and each side or leg-member being formed in one of its said sides with slots or cut-away portions, combined with the bag-body and gussets of a bag, said bag-body having its marginal edges surrounding its mouth arranged and secured in the U-shaped chambers'of said upper or top-members, the gussets having marginal edge-portions arranged and secured in the U-shaped chambers of said side or leg-members, and the upper Icorner-portions of the bag-body being arranged in the slots 'or cut-away parts of said side or leg-members and extending outwardly therefrom, substantially as and for the purposes set-forth.

A bag-frame consisting of hinged frame-sections, each frame-section comprising an upper or top-member and a pair of side or leg-members, said upper or topmember and said side or leg-members having ed by straight edge-portions and a convexly curved edge-portion, combined with the bagbody and gussets of a bag, said bag-body having its marginal edges surrounding its fmouth arranged and secured in the U-shaped ':chambers of said upper or top-members,
