To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAR GREENBAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York city,- borough of Manhattan, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve'- ments in Bags or the Like, of which the following is a specification.
the` class of bags, pocket-books, and the like which are provided with a frame secured along the mouth of a pocket and having knobs adaptbag, pocket-book, or the like having side pookl ets and an intermediate pocket provided'with a frame secured at the mouth of the pocket and having fastening devices to coact in holding the frame closed, with a tab or strap secured to one wall adapted to fold over the mouth of the bag, and provided with an opening to pass over or receive the fasteners on the frame and with complemental fastening means on the tab and an outer wall of the bag or pocket-book for holding the tab when folded over the mouth of the bag.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure 1 is a side view of a vbag provided with my improvements, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same shown open.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the views.
As shown in the drawings, the bag A is provided with side pockets B C and with an intermediate pocket D, which may be constructed in any well-known manner.
At E is a frame secured along the edges or mouth of pocket D, said frame having fastening devices F, shown in the form of knobs, adapted to coact in holding the pocket D and frame E closed in well-known manner.
At G is indicated a tab or strap, secured-at one end to the wall A2, as by stitches c, or in any other suitable manner, which tab or strap is adapted to fold overy the edge of the bag and known glove-fasteners,attached, respectively,
to the tab G and to the wall A3. The tab G is provided with an opening G2, that permits the projecting knobs F to pass through the tab, My invention relates to improvementsiu so that the tab may fold down snugly over the edges of the walls of the bag or pocket-book lwithout interference by the knobs F, thereby holding the walls A2 A3 and the entire bag securely closed. The tab G may be made in. the form of a fork, having the two prongs secured to the wall A2, providing the ope-ning G2, as indicated in Fig. 2, whereby the end portion G3 may carry the fasteners and be free for operation.
Having now described my invention, what I claim isl. A bag or the like provided with a pocket having a frame at its mouth, said frame having fastening means for keeping it closed, a tab secured to one wall of the bag and provided with an opening to receive said fastening means, and means for detachably connecting said tab with a wall of the bag, substantially as described.
2. A bag or the like provided with side pockets and an intermediate pocket, a frame secured along the edges of the intermediate pocket and provided with fastening means, a tab secured toa wall of the -bag and adapted to fold overthe mouths of the pockets, said tab being provided with an opening to receive the fastening means on the frame and coacting fastening means carried by the tab and an opposite wall of the bag, substantially Vas described.
3. A bag or the like provided with side pockets and an intermediate pocket, a frame secured along the edges of the intermediate pocket and provided with fastening means, a tab having a fork-like portion providing an opening to pass over the fastening means on the frame, the prongs of the tab being secured to a wall of the bag, and complemental fastening means respectively carried'A by the tab and by a wall of the pocket, whereby the tab may fold over the open mouths of the pockets and receive the fasteners on the frame through the opening, substantially as described.
4f. A bag or the like provided with side pockets and an intermediate pocket, a frame secured along the edges of the intermediate pocket and provided with coacting knobs, a tab secured to a Wall of the bag and provided with an opening to receive said knobs, and complemental fastening devices secured respectively to the tab beyond its opening and IO to a Wall of the bag, whereby when the tab is folded over the open mouths of the pockets the knobs will pass through the opening in the tab, substantially as described.
