LOUIS B. PRAHAR, OF NEAV YORK, N. Y.
FRAME FOR POCKET-BOOKS, SATCHELS,&G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,200, dated June 21, 1887.
Application filed May 10,1887,
T0 aZZ 10710777, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LoUIs'B. PRAHAR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Frame for Satchels, Pocket-Books, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation ofmy new frame applied to a pocket-book or purse. Fig. 2 is afront elevation of the frame partially open and with thelocking-knobs removed; and Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional elevation taken on the line 03 m of Fig. 1.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
A B represent the two jaws or members of the complete frame, eaeh made from a single piece of metal stamped upon a die to form a right angle in transverse section, as shown in Fig. 3, and a continuous curve. as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. These are hinged together at their ends by thepins ac, and one end, a, of the jaw A is placed outside of the end Z) of the jaw B, while the opposite end, (1?, of the jaw A is placed inside of the end 7) of the jaw B. A flange, c, is formed upon the inner edge of the jaw A, to overlap the adjacent port-ion of the jaw B when the frame is closed, and a flange, d, is formed upon the inner edge of the can be no opening between the jaws, (W011 Serial No. 237,757.
(No model.)
though the rivets a become worn and eompar atively loose. The locking studs or bolts F F are secured at the angles 1? i of the flanges c d, and the portions 0 d, which are overlapped by the flanges 0 Z, are made narrow, as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
By constructing the frame as described the same is cheap and practical and the jaws brace and protect each other; also, the mutual overlapping of thejaws prevents theopcning of the jaws when the rivets a and locking-knobs F become loose in the use of the bag, satchel, or purse.
The body D of the bag or purse may be secured to the frame by rivets c c in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new and improved article of manufacture, a satchel, purse, or pocketbook frame composed of the jaws A B, eachstruck from a singlepiece of sheet metal, with anarrow portion at one half thereof and a flange at the other half made flush or on the same curve with the narrow portion of the jaw, substantially as shown and described.
2. The jaw A, formed with the flange 0 to overlap the jaw B, and the said jawBf'ormed with the flange (Z to overlap thejaw A,one end of thejaw A being pivoted to the outer surface of the jaw B, the opposite end of jaw Abeing pivoted to the inner surface of the jaw B, subsiantiallyas shown and described- LOUlS B. PEA IIAR.
