(No Model) E. SCHNOPP POCKET BOOKx 110.415,658. Paten-1811 Nov. 19, 1889.`
ATTORNEYS N. Prizes, Phnwmhngnphen wnhingwn, uc4
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST SOIINOPP, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
POCKET-BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,658, dated November 19, 1889.
Application filed August 29. 1889.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ERNST ScHNoPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocketdooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in a pocket-book the jaws of which are secured to the opposite ends ot a flexible cover and provided with arms which are connected by hinged joints inside of the bight of the cover.
My invention is illustrated in the acco1npanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents an end view of the pocket-book when closed. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan or top view of the same when open. Fig. 4 is an end view of the same when open.
Similarletters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letter A designates the flexible cover, the ends of which are secured in the jaws B B. The coverAis attached to the jaws so as to form the bight a. From the opposite ends of each of the jaws extend rigid arms C C C C', respectively, and the free ends of these arms are connected by hinged joints b b, which are situated inside of the bight a of the cover. In the interior of the cover are formed the pockets D D D, which are separated from each other by partitions E E, and the ends of which are closed by gussets F. When the pocket-book is closed, the arms C C extend down between Serial No. 322,351. (N0 model.)
the edges of the cover A and produce ahandsome finish of the article, (see Fig. 1,) and when the pocketbook is opened the arms C C ext-end across the gussets of the pockets, so as to preventthe same from bending outward. The hinge-joints l) b are disconnected from the bight a of the cover A, and this is -important and essential to provide for the movement of the arms C O and hinge-joints b I) along the ends of the pockets or along the gussets F of the pockets when the pocketbook is opened and closed.
It will be readily seen that this invention can be applied not only to pocket-books, but also to other articles, such as bags or Satchels.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A pocket-book having pockets D, a flexible cover A, provided with a bight a, jaWsB B', secured to the opposite'edges of the cover, and arms C C, connected at the inside of the said bght ofthe cover by hinge-joints l) b,which are disconnected from the bight and move along the ends of the pockets to and from the bight as the pocket-book is opened and closed, substantially as described. e
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST SCHNOPP.
