CORPORATION.
BEZEL FOR WATCHCASES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 759,101, dated May 3,1904.
Application filed December 23, 1902. Serial No'. 136,370. (No modeh) To all whom it may concern.-
stitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a front View of a bezel for watchcases constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a sectional view of the same. This invention relates to an improvement in bezels for watchcases, the object of the invention being to form a bezel so that the crystal may be set on the under side instead of entered from the front, thus doing away with the mat'in the bezel protecting the dial and making a thinner case than is possible when the crystal is set from the outside.
A further object of the invention is a construction which permits of an ornamental design for a bezel, particularly for open-face watches; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
The bezel A is formed with the usual edge B for engagement with a watchcase. In the under side of the bezel is a shoulder O, against which the crystal D rests. The central opening in the bezel may be perfectly round or its edge given any desired ornamental form, this edge forming a flange E, which extends over the surface of the crystal and so as to not only form a protection but give an ornamental appearance to the face of the watch.
By setting the bezel in from the rear instead of the front the edge of the crystal is nearer the dial, thus producing a thinner watch and the necessity of a mat in the bezel is avoided.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A watchcase-lid comprising a crystal and a bezel, said bezel consisting of a ring adapted at its outer edge to be seated in a watchcase and having formed on its under face an integral crystal-retaining shoulder, the diameter of said shoulder being greater than the diameter of the sight-opening and sufiiciently large to allow said crystal to be snapped onto said shoulder from the inside of the bezel, said shoulder being so shaped as to fit the crystal and to hold the same against inward pressure, the portion of the ring projecting inwardly from said seat and forming a flange which extends over the edge of and partially covering the face of the crystal, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
