UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR NIVOIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WATCH-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,433, dated September 1, 1885.
Application tiled April 21, 1885.
T 0 all whom it nuzy concern.-
Be it known that I, VICTOR Nlvors, of the city and county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Watch-Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to ornamenting watchcases with diamonds and other stones 5 and the invention consists in setting the jewels in the capplate of the watch-case and protecting them with the back plate of the case, the back plate having openings formed in it to reveal the jewels.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the back of a watch-case ornamented in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the line :0 x of Fig. 1.
The watch-ease A is ornamented at the back with the diamonds or other jewels,a at These are set in the cap 6 of the watch-case and arranged to form any design to suit the taste. The back plate, 0, of the case has the openings (2 d formed through it to coincide with the jewels a, so that when the back plate, 0, is closed thejewels will appear in the openings, as shown clearly in the drawings.
(No model.)
By setting the jewels in the cap-plate they will be protected by the plate 0, and in most cases the openings d will be made somewhat smaller than the jewels to prevent loss in case they should become detached from their settings.
Upon the outer surface of the back plate, a, may be engraved, enameled, or otherwise "formed in or upon the material of the plate any desired figure or design e,which, together with the jewels, complete the ornamentation of the case.
Myinvention is applicable also to lockets and other closed jewelry.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a WELEGhCiLSG having its back plate perforated and provided with jewels projecting a. short distance into the said perforations, as set forth.
2. A watch-case having its back plate provided with a series of perforations and its capplate with jewels projecting a short distance into the said perforations, substantially as herein shown and described.
