UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. HARMAN AND EDWIN T. HARMAN, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK,
ASSIGNORS TO JOSEPH FAHYS & COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A. CORPORA- TION OF NEW YORK.
WATGHCA'SE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 9 1920 Application filed July 2, 1926. Serial No. 393,480.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that we, CHARLES W. HAR- MAN and EDWIN T. HARMAN, citizens of the United. States, and residents of New Rochelle, county of lVestchester, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVatchcases, of which the following is a specification? The present invention relates to improvements in watch cases*particularly for wrist watchesand to the means for supporting the case upon the wrist-band or ribbon whereby the appearance of the watch both as to its size and shape will be-modified with a viewto improving the artistic effect.
A watch case normally comprises three parts, namely, the center, the back and the bezel. lVrist watch cases commonly have the. loops for the attachment of the wrist band or ribbon secured to the watch center so that when the watch is in place, the entire face design of the watch is exposed. In the improved watch case of the'present application, the securing loops for the wrist band or ribbon are mounted upon the watch bezel and project over portions of the bezel face with the result that when the wrist-band or ribbon is attached, the loop-end portions thereof will extend over and conceal portions of. the bezel face and modify the appearance of the design of the watch both as to its size and shape.
In cooperation with the loop bars upon the bezel, we sometimes provide additional loop bars upon the watch center with a view to increasing the safety of the attachment of the wrist-band or ribbon to the watch and avoid the result of the accidental, separation of the bezel from the case when the watch is removed.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, we will first describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing and afterward point out the novelty in the annexed claims. In said drawing Figure 1 is a face view of one form of the improved watch case for wrist watches.
igs. 2 and 3 are different edge views of the same.
Fig. f is a face view of a modified form of the improved watch case.
Figs. and G are different edge views of the form shown in Fig. 4%.
Referring first to the watch ease illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawing, 1 is the watch center, 2 the back and 3 the bezel of the watch case of general octagonal form. The bezel 3 may have a dial opening of any desired shape or design but in the present case, it has a generally oblong face opening 4 outlined by the raised frame or flat 5. The frame 5 supports the crystal or transparency in the usual way. Mounted upon the face of the bezel 3 and extending parallel with the long sides of the face frame 5 are the metal bars or loops 6 which are preferably formed flush with the frame or flat 5 and spaced slightly therefrom as indicated at 7. These loops (3 are designed to have threaded through them the ribbon, web, strap or other form of attaching wrist-band indicated at 8 by which the watch case can be mounted upon the wrist of the wearer.
It will be observed, particularly with reference to Fig. l'of the drawing, that when the wrist-band or ribbon 8 is properly threaded through theloops 6, theside portionsOf the watch case and particularly the watch bezel-are covered by the band or ribbon so that the shape and size of the watch case are materially modified in appearance.
In Figsd, 5 and 6 of the drawing, we show a modified form of case embodying the present invention. This modification is illustrated as applied to a cushion design of watch case, although it will be understood that the design is immaterial. In this modification, the case center 10 is provided with the usual loop bars 11 while the bezel 1-2 is provided with the loop bars 18 attached to the bezel and projecting across parts of the face thereof for' the purpose of concealing the shape and size of the case beneath the ends of the wrist band or ribbon as in the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. In attaching the wristband 15 to this modified form of case, the same .is threaded through both loops 11 and 13, as illustrated in Fig. 5. In this form of case, the ribbon or band 15 engaging the loops on both the center and bezel, will prevent the accidental separation of the .bezel from the case when the watch is removed from the wrist of the wearer.
The main purpose of the present invention is to provide a novel and artistic watch case for Wrist Watches in Which Watch movements, as now constructed, can be readily mounted.
We claim 1. A three-piece Wrist Watch case having band attaching loops or bars projecting over parts of the bezel to disguise the shape and size of the Watch. I
2. A Wrist Watch case having loops or bars attached to a part of the case and projecting over portions of the bezel, and a Web or band attached to said loops or bars and covering parts of the bezel to disguise the size and shape of the Watch case. i
3. A wrist Watch case having a center, a back, and a bezel, loops or bars attached to eaner/e the beze l and projecting over parts of the I face thereof, loop bars attached to the center in operative relation to said bezel loop bars, and a band passing through said loops and extending over portions of the bezel face to disguise the shape and size of the Watch.
4. A wrist Watch having a center, a back,
and a bezel, a loop bar attached to the bezel and projecting over a part-of the face there:
