SECURING DEVICE FOR WRIST-WATCHES.
Specification of Letters Patent.

State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Securing Devices for Wrist-WVatches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying a part hereof.
This invention relatesparticularly to devices by which straps or ribbons are connected to watches which may be worn either as wrist-watches or in other ways. As the use of such watches increases it is found that there is objection to anything about the watch or its connections which makes it evident that the watch is intended or adapted for use in diiferent ways. With certain classes of trade it is impossible to sell watches which indicate clearly adaptability for-such difierent uses. It is the object of. this invention, therefore, to provide a securing or connecting device by means of which a strap or wristlet, or even a metal bracelet or chain can be connected to a watch, through the medium of an eye secured to the watch-case, of such a character that the dedrawmg forming vices which directly engage the eye of the watch-case shall be concealed from sight,
when the watch is in use, shall permit the strap or band to be brought close to the edge of the watch and substantially in the central plane thereof, and shall permit the metal parts which are seen to have an ornamental appearance rather than an appearance of utility. The improved device comprises a overlie the eye of the watch-case and to be engaged therewith on its reverse side, centrally of its length, and may be conformed, on the edge next the watch-case, to the curvature of the watchcase, and has in the same plane with the watch-case an eye or bar for engagement with the strap or band. The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which,

The wristlet, which may be of leather, ribbon or other suitable material and of any suitable character, is shown in Fig. 1 as having two parts d and 6 connected by an ordinary buckle f. Each part is formed at the end next the watch with a loop or eye adapted for engagement with the corresponding connecting device 9' or 7. Hinged at one end of the broad bar 9, and on the under or reverse side of it, in a plane transverse to the plane of the watch, is a bar 9 which is provided at the free end with a locking device 9 adapted to engage a stud g on the end of the broad bar 9, so that the hinged bar 9 may be held in fixed parallel relationship with the broad bar 9. 0n the inner face of one or the other'of the bars 9 and g is a stud g, the end of which lies in close proximity to the other of such bars. In the construction shown the stud g is carried by the hinged bar 9 When the stud g is engaged with the eye 0 disengagement thereof is prevented by the locking of the two bars 9 and g by the locking device 9 the free end of the stud being closely covered by the opposite bar. It Will be observed that the employmentof the securing devices described permits the. strap .or ribbon ,to come into close proximity to the Watch-case, avoids anygap between the strap or ribbon and the Watch- -case, completely covers from vie-iv the mechanical devices relied upon, and permits the tension of the strap or ribbon to be substantially in the central plane of the Watch, while the appearance of the ivhole is ornamental and pleasing and in no Way suggesting of adaptability of the Watch for other uses. 7
I claim as my invention:
1. A securing device for securing a Wristletto a atch having an eye, comprising abroad bar having an eye inthe plane of the Watch and formed to overlie and conceal the eye of the Watch, a stud on the under side of the bar to engage the eye of the Watch, and devices on the under or reverse side of; thebroadjbar to prevent the disengagementof said stud from the eye of the Watch.
2. A securing device for securing a Wristlet to -a Watch having an eye, comprising a broad bar having an eye in the, plane ofthe Leta-152' Watch and formed to overlie and conceal the eyeof the Watch, a hinged bar hinged to the broad bar at one end thereof, on the under or reverse side thereof, to swing in a plane transverse to the plane of the Watch, a
locking device at the free end of the hinged bar to hold said bars in fixed, parallel relationship, and a stud adapted to enter the hinged to the broad bar at one end thereof,

and a stud adapted to enter the eye of the Watch and carried onthe inner faceof one of the bars, Which are hingedly connected With its free end in close proximity to the other of said bars.
