11 INVENTOR @w y CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
.WRIST-WATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1916.
Application filed December 23, 1915. Serial No. 63,321.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. DEPOL- LIER, a citizen of the United States, and residing in the borough of Brooklyn of the city of New York, county of Kings, in the 'State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrist- Watches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
This invention relates to means for scour.- ing a watch in place on the wrist of the wearer and more especially to means of this character which embody a strap or wristlet of leather or fabric. For ladies wear such watches are now usually sold with several straps or bands or wristlets of different color or different material in order that one or another may be chosen according to the taste of the wearer, or to harmonize with the gown. Usually the devices through which Y connection between the wristlet and the watch is effected are permanently secured to the wristlet and attachment and detachment are effected between the connecting device and the watch. This plan. requires separate metal fittings for each wristlet, which considerably increase the cost, especially when solid gold or platinum is employed. Moreover, such devices necessitate considerable space between the end of the wristlet and the watch and are not always easily connected and disconnected if they are to be reliable in use. This invention has for its object to overcome the difliculties and objections referred to and in accordance therewith the connecting'device, between each end of the wristlet and the watch, is of such character that it may be easily engaged with or disengaged from the wristlet and remains ordinarily in engagement with the watch, although it may be detached therefrom.
The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illus trated and in which,
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a watch, wristlet and connecting devices which embody the invention. Fig. 2 is a "detail view showing, on a larger scale, a portion of the watch, one end of the wristlet and the connecting device. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective, on a larger scale, of the connecting device shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an end view of the device shown in Fig. 3.
The watch a, of any desired form, is provided. at opposite points of its periphery with bows or eyes I), 0.
The wristlet, which may be of leather, ribbon or other suitablematerial, and of any suitable character, is shown in Fig. 1 as having two parts d and e, connected by an ordinary buckle Each part is formed at the end next the watch with a loop or eye d, c, adapted for engagement with the device through which connection with the watch is effected. This connecting device 9 is adapted for ready engagement with or disengagement from the wristlet, while at the same time it is not liable to accidental disengagement, and is also adapted for engagement with the watch in a more permanent manner, that is to say that it is not readily disengaged. The devise comprises a bail or main part adapted for engagement with the watch, and a bar adapted for insertion through the loop of the wristlet, the bar being movably connected to the bail at one end and adapted at the other end for detachable engagement with the bail.
In the form of the device shown the bail or main part 9 is formed with a hook g for engagement with the watch and the bar, formed of two telescoping parts 9 and 9 with an interposed spring 9 is pivotally or hingedly connected at one end, as at 9 to the corresponding end of the bail g and is adapted at its other end to engage the hole 9 at the other end of the bail. The manner of engaging this device with the watch and with the wristlet will be readily under stood without further description.
I claim as my invention:
The combination with a watch of a wristlet having a loop at its end and a connecting device comprising a bail having a hook for engagement with the watch, and a telescoping bar hingedly connected to the bail at one end and adapted at the other end to be detachably engaged with the bail.
This specification signed this 18th day of December, A. D. 1915.
CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER.
