CHARLES I..MINKOFF AND LOUIS KRONTHAL, F NEW YORK, N. Y.'
ADJUSTABLE HAT OR CAP.
Specification of Letters 'Patent Patented Jan. 9,1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES I. MINKoFF and LoUI's KRONTHAL, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county vand State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Hat or Cap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates generally to wearing apparel, and more particularly to an adjustable hat or cap having. a band of peculiar construction whereby it is adapted to be worn by people with different sized heads.
The object of our invention is to provide an adjustable hat or cap of new and improved construction having the band s0 made that it will tightly fit the heads of 2Q different people or of people who ordinarily require hats or caps of diilerent sizes, thereby providing an article of a single design, a cap or hat, which does away with .the necessity of several sizes.
A further object of our invention is to provide an adjustable band for hats or caps constructed and arranged so that the band may be lengthened or shortened, thereby adapting itto the heads of persons requiring hats or caps of diii'erent sizes.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciication, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts all the views,.and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of one form `of cap embodying our invention; Fig. 2 is a partial side view of the interior of one side of the band; Fig. 3 is a horizontal seciontl View showing the construction of the Referring particularly to the figures, the band 1 is of a single length of material, one end thereof, as 2, being connected to one end of an elastic member, such as a piece of rubber 3, the other end 4 of the rubber or elastic being secured at a suitable oint to the band 1. The free end 5 of the and beyond the point where it is connected to the end 4 of the rubber is continued around the outside in order to cover the rubber or band 3 and the point 6 of this end portion is suitably attached to one end of another piece of elastic material 7 which is secured at its other end to the outside of the band 1 in any suitable manner such as a button 8.
In order to properly position the free end 5 of the band relatively to the major portion l a suitable strap 9 is provided which is secured to the band 1, the end portion 5 passing under the strap as shown particularly in Fig. 1.
In the drawings we have shown our band bers 3 and 10; the second piece l0 may bc positioned thereon at any suitable point but preferably will be at a point opposite to that ofthe member 3. This second elastic member 10 may be arranged in a mannerY similar to the member 3, that is, the one end portion of the band 1 adjacent this member may be continued on around opposite to the band 1, and secured thereto in a manner similar to thatadjacent the elastic member 3. Such a construction is, in fact, a double elastic band and is particularly well adapted to caps having peaks thereon so that these free ends may be positioned'on opposite sides of the peak, thereby rendering each side of the cap uniform.
The material ofwhich the different parts of the hat or cap' are made' is not of importance as the inventive idea may be applied to hats or caps used for different purp`oses without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The elastic member-may be connected directly to the end portions of the hat or cap band, in which case it is unnecessary to have one end of the band lying outside of another portion of the band, and, in which case, it would also be possible to do away with the elastic material 7 and the button 8. As a matter of fact the b and may contain a pluralityxof elastic portions or pieces of rubber suitably positioned there-around in order to arrive atan article which falls within the spirit of the invention, it being unnecessary to provide the particular constructin shown in the drawings. Having thus described our invent-ion` We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent z- An adjustable band for caps or hats having an elastic member attached to one end' thereof, the other end of the said member being secured to nintermediate portion of names to this specification in the presence of the band, the end portion of the band be tWo subscribing Witnesses. A yond the said point of intermediate connection being continued along and outside of CHARLES I' MINKOFF 5 the opposite end portion of the band, to- LOUIS KRQNTHAL gether with means for elastically securing Witnesses:
the said end of the band in position. l PHILLIP D. RoLLHAUs,
In testimony whereof We have signed our LAURENCE J. GALLAGHER.
