R. F. LANDRUM CONNECTER Filed Jan. 29 1925 I ll llllllllllllll'lH BY WU M A I IORNEY YIIIII/l/IIII/II/II/I/ mmun Patented Dec. 29, 1925.
UNITED. STA
REGINALD I". LANbRUH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK- eonnncraa.
Application filed January 2i), 1925. Serial No, 5,486.
To alt whom z't may concern:-
Be'it known that I, REGINALD F. LAN- DRUM, a citizen of the United States, residing ,.been made as waterproof containers for at Brooklyn,;in the county ofKings and State of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Connect-- ers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in buckles, and has for its object the provision of a hollow belt buckle'which will serve both asa waterproof container for articles of convenience and will also function efficiently as an ordinary belt buckle.
It has longbeen a desideratum among bathers to have a device for holding keys, cigarettes or toilet articles out of contact with the water and which at the same'time may be worn while in the water without interfering with bathin or swimming. To accomplish this object hltherto, devices have keys, cigarettes, money and toilet articles which have been suspended from or attached to various parts of the swimming costume and such-waterproof devices have also been made which have been fastened on to the belt of the wearer, but I have not prior to my invention, heard of any device for this purpose which is integral with the buckle itself.
Further objects of this invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings in which- Fig. l is a perspective view of my im-' proved belt buckle attached to a belt show- 'lng the interior construction thereof.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof closed.
, in the flangeslO and 10 of the frame of the buckle is a rectangular rubber gasket 11 which is cut out on the interior thereof I To one end of the plate 10 is joined a hinge 17 to which is attached a? hollow box likestructure 1 Fig. 3 is a section along the line 33 of the edges of which fit the elastic rubber gasket 11 closely, so that when closed, a hollow interior is provided in which may be put cigarettes, mentioned as 19 coins 12, matches 13 and other objects as desired. The guard 12 acts as a coin retainer; the guard 19 as a holder for the cigarettes. The body 18 has a small protuberance 16 on the end thereof, which protuberance contacts with the spring-16 when the buckle receptacle isclosed. The spring 16 is made with suflicient resiliency so that its head will fit over the rotuberance 16 and will keep the box 18 tightly wedged against the gasket 11. In order to release the receptacle, it is necessary only to exert a slight pressure on the thumbpiece of spring 16 and the box may be readily lifted.
I have shown in this embodiment, objects such as matches, coins and cigarettes displayed in the interior of the belt buckle,
ut it is apparent that other objects such as powder puffs, lipsticks, medicinal articles, etc. may be substituted for these articles, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It is also a parent that variation may be made in the orm of this buckle, such as a change in the metal loops and in the shape of the buckle without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It will be seen that I have provided a convenient waterproof receptacle which is integral with the belt buckle and which may be made in a shape not essentially much larger than the usual belt buckle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a belt connector, the combination of a rectangular hollow face plate, a rear plate of -substantially the same contour inged thereto, a rectangular rubber gasket fitting the edges of said rear plate so that the face plate will enclose a water-tight hollow space when resting on said gasket, loops attached to said rear plate to engage the ends of a belt, and spring means extended in the direction of the length of said face plate for tightly .compressing the rear plate and the face plate together.
In a belt'buckle, a face plateof substantially rectangular contour and having pressing the face plate, against the rear a flange at right angles thereto and rearplate and loops attached to said, rear plale wardly thereof so that saidface plate forms to which the ends of the belt are fastened, 10
a receptacle, a hinge at one edge of said In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my face plate, a rear plate attached to said signature; hinge, a rectangular gasket attached to the edges of said rear plate, spring means com- REGINALD F. LANDRUM.
