WATERPROOF BATHERS CASE Filed Feb. 28, 1929 f g/7777777777;7777777777777777Z1 INVENTOR. 571M015 L HHL W7L BY 5 a 5 A ATTORNEY Patented June 9, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE SAMUEL HEILWEIL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGN- MENT'S, TO JACOB SCHIERER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y; 1
WATERPROOF BATHERS cAs Application filed February 28, 1929. Serial No. 343,291.
This invention relates generally to new and useful improvements in bathers waterproof cases.
The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, dependable in use and efficient in action, and which can be. manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention proposes the use of a horizontal ring adjustably mounted and supporting a soft rubber washer coactable with a hard rubber lining projecting from a metallic hollow cover, connected with a metallic hollow body, the cover and body forming a case. A latching means is arranged on the front of the cover and case for latching them in closed positions, the cover being hingedly connected at its rear on the hollow body, and strap members are arranged on the rear of the body so as to form vertical loops thru which a belt may pass for supporting the case upon a person.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and
to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the rear side of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the front 6 side, with the cover in an opened position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 1- is a vertical sectional view, taken on the line H of Fig. 5.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 55 ofFig. '3. P
The case consists of a hollow body member 1() opened at the top as indicated by numeral 11, and a cover 12 hingedly connects with the body by a hinge 13 positioned on the rear of the cover and body. Vertical straps 14 are attached on the rear of the body so as to form vertical spaced loops thru which a belt may pass for attaching the device upon a person. I j A lug 15 is attached upon one side of the cover 12 and a second lug 16 upon the same side of the body 10, and a chain 17 is con-- nected at one of its ends on the lug 15 and at its other end on the lug 16. When the case isnot worn upon a person it may be carried by the chain.
A lock 18 is positioned on the front of the body '10 and is coactable with ahook 19 on a complementary lock element 20 attached upon the front of the cover 12. The cover may belatched in a closed position on'the said body. The rear face of both the body and cover are vertically curved towards the front to conform with a Wearers body so when the case is supported upon a strap engagedupona wearer, the device will cause no inconvenience.
A lining 21 of hard rubber or of a phenol condensation product is engaged within the cover and projects slightly from the bot-tom edge as indicated by reference numeral 22. This projecting. lining engages within the body 10 when the cover is in a closed position. The lower edge of the lining 22 abuts against a soft rubber washer 28 supported upon a horizontal ring 2-itwith an outer contour slidably engaging the inner sides of the. body 10. g V v The ring 24 is supported by screws 25 which rotatively engage in portions of the ring and threadedly engage in lugs 26 projecting from the inner sides of the body 10. Lock nuts 27 threadedly engage on the screws and abut against the lugs 26 for locking the screws in vertical adjusted positions. In order to insure a water tight joint between the cover and the body the lock nuts 27 may be loosened and the screws 25 turned for placing the horizontal ring at a most advantageous position so that the lower edge of the lining 22 clamps against the soft rubber washer 23.
In operation of the device it may be attached upon a belt of a wearer or may be carried by the chain 17 Various small articles may be carried in the case such as, money including bills, keys, cosmetics etc. These articles are safe from the water in that the lining 22 coacting with the soft rubber washer 23, produces a water tight joint between the cover and the body of the case.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. A case of the class described, comprising a hollow body open at the top, a cover hinged on the body, a horizontal ring supported within the body, a washer resting on the ring, and a lining of hard material within the cover and extending therefrom and pressing against the washer in closed position of the cover, and means for adjusting the vertical position of the said ring, consisting of lugs projecting from said body, and screws threadedly engaging thru said lugs and rotatively connected with said ring.
2. A case of the class described, comprising a hollow body open at the top, a cover hinged on the body, a horizontal ring supported within the body, a washer resting on the ring, and a lining of hard material within the cover and extending therefrom and pressing against the washer in closed position of the cover, and means for adjusting the vertical position of the said ring. 1
3. A case of the class described, comprising a hollow body open at the top, a cover hinged on the body, a horizontal ring sup ported within the body, a washer resting on the ring, and a lining of hard material within the cover and extending therefrom and pressing against the washer in closed position of the cover, and means for adjusting the vertical position of the said ring, said means including adjusting screws.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
SAMUEL HEILIVEIL.
