INVENTOR Patented Aug. 7, 1928.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM JORDAN GRAVES, O1? FORT..WORTH, TEXAS.
SAFETY POCKETBOOK.
Application filed March 21, 1927. Serial No. 176,970.
This invention relates to improvements in.
devices for carrying money and other valuables on the person and has for its principal object the provision of a means for suspending a pocket book, bill fold or coin purse from a gentlemans belt usually worn to suspend the trousers, the purse or pocket book being carried inside the trousers. vention provides the advantages of safety against theft by pickpockets, or loss of the pocket book or purse from any cause.-
The invention will be clearly understood from a perusal of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view of the invention in position on a gentlemans belt and illustrating the belt in dress position on the wearer.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of a purse of pocket book showing the position it assumes when worn with the clip and cord attached; and
Figure 3 is a sectional detail view along the line 33 of Figure 1.
Proceeding in accordance with the drawings and wherein similar reference charactcrs indicate the various parts of the invention, 1 denotes a belt carried in the loops of the trousers 3. The belt'is of usual form and construction, including a buckle 4. Removably fastened to the belt is a clasp 5 with chains 6 or a cord if preferred, and one end of the chain is securely attached to the purse or pocket book, clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, by means of a clip 8. The clip 8 is riveted or otherwise securely fastened to the pocket book or purse and then bent upon itself in parallel fashion, clearly shown in The in-' Figure 3, so as to snugly engage over the belt 1. The clip may be easily removed or adjusted, yet securely holds the pocketbook in the position shown in Figure 1, between the inside, surface of the trousers and the wearers shirt. In this position it is easily accessible to the person Wearing the device, but is in front and does not interfere with a persons movements or cause any inconvenience. Should the clip for any reason become dislodged, the chain or cord will still hold the pocket book, purse, or the like by means of the clasp 5 and no loss will occur. Obviously the device may be worn on either side of the trousers and where no belt is Worn may be attached to the trousers waist band.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction shown, but is susceptible of alterations and modifications, in keeping with the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a, safety container such as a purse, bill-fold or the like, adapted to be removably attached directly to the belt of the user, so as to permit ready access to the contents of the container, and remotely secured to the belt to prevent loss of the container, of a clip permanently secured di-- rect to the container and having a lip fitting over the outside of the belt to hold the container in place but permit immediate removal thereof, a sliding clasp secured permanently to the belt as long as the belt is buckled, and a flexible connection between said clip and said clasp.. p
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WILLIAM JORDAN GRAVES.
