Description

O ct. 7, l947. J. H. THOMPSON' CONCEALED POCKET FOR GARMENTS Filed March 23, 1945 woe/whom Jams/ET @22W M Patented Oct. 7, 1947 s'rATes rarer 1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in garments and more particularly to a Vest having one or more concealed pockets therein and adapted to provide a safe means for carrying money and other valuable articles.
More specifically the invention comprises a vest adapted to be worn under the clothing of a person and having one or more pockets on the inside of the vest within which money or other valuable articles may be carried and also providing a removable lining secured to the inside of the vest for covering and enclosing said pocket.
A further object of the invention is to provide a safety money-carrying garment of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance and which otherwise is well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view.
Figure 2 is a front elevational View With the garment in open position, and
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail `wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a body-encircling garment in the form of a vest having the armholes 6 therein and open at its front and provided with a separable fastener of conventional construction, such as a zipper l for securing the front edges of the garment in closed position.
The inside of the back of the garment is provided With upper and lower snap fasteners 8 and 9 to which a lining l) may be secured by the Snap fasteners I l. The lining may also be partly stitched at its sides7 if desired.
A lower pocket i2 is secured to the inside of the vest under the lining lll, the pocket being open at its upper edge and provided with a zipper fastener I3 for closing the same and an upper pocket Id is also secured to the inside of the back of the garment adjacent its upper edge, the pocket l likewise being open adjacent its upper portion and provided with a zipper fastener l5 for closing the same.
When the lining I is secured at its upper and lower edges by means of the snap fasteners 8 and 9 the pockets l2 and I4 will be concealed and access to either of the pockets may be afforded by releasing either the upper or lower edges of the lining,
' The vest is intended to be Worn under the clothing of a person and is constructed to conformably fit a persons body so that the clothing may be worn over the vest Without causing undue bulging or an unsightly appearance to the clothmg.
Coins or other valuables may be placed in the pockets l2 and lll and will thus be safely carried on the body of a person without danger of having the same stolen.
It will be apparent that the vest as Well as the lining and the pockets l2 and I4 may be constructed of any suitable cloth or other flexible material.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with theraccompanying drawing, it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the article will be quite apparent to those skilled in the art. A more detailed description thereof is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention that the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as'herein described and the scope of the appended claim Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
In a safety garment, the combination, which comprises a vest having separated front sections, a back and sides with armholes in the upper ends of the sides, and a fastener separably connecting the said front sections, a lower pocket permanently secured at the sides and across the bottom to the inside of the back of the garment spaced from the lower end thereof, a separable fastener providing a closure for the upper edge of the pocket, an upper pocket permanently secured at the sides and across the bottom to the inside of the back of the garment spaced from the upper end thereof, a separable fastener providing a closure for the upper edge of the pocket spaced from the upper edge of the garment, a lining eX- tending across the back of the garment covering said pockets, and means removably attaching upper and lower edges of the lining to corresponding edges of the garment providing access to said pockets independently. v
