G. ANT-ELM! NOVELTY COIN CASE FOR BATHERS Filed Jan. 29, 1923 Patented Mar. Il, 1924i.
UNIT
NOVELTY com CASE For. BATHERS.
Application led 'January 29, 1923. Serial No. 615,554.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, GAETANO ANTELMI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Novelty Coin Cases for Bathers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to limprovements in novelty coin cases, adapted for use by ersons who desire to carry with them w ile in their bathing suits, jewelry and small coins or bills.
An important object of this invention is to provide a case of this character which will be absolutely water-proof.
A further object is to provide a lightweight, ornamental case, for attachment to the bathers person, either to his.wrist or to his belt, and which in these positions may be readily opened for extraction of coins, and may be easily and positively closed with a minimum of effort.
With the above and other objects in view as may become apparent from the following disclosure, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts, operation and specific features, to be hereinafter enlarged upon and recited in the subjoined claims, the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of my novelty coin case;
Figure 2 is a similar view with the case attached to a belt or similar portion of the bathers costume;
Figure 3 is a perspective view with the top removed;
Figure 4 is a transverse section; and
Fi re 5 is a plan of a suitable washer of annu ar form. v
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a base member with ears 6 provided with a slot 7 through which may be passed a leather or web strap 8, having a buckle or fastening member 9 for securement to the wearers person.
An annular shell 10 is secured to, or made integral with, the base, and is provided with threads 11, and an annular shoulder 12 on which a rubber washer 14, is adapted to rest.
'A top member 15 having linger-engagement portions 16 of knurling, ornamentation or scroll work, is threaded at 17, for engagement with the threads 11 on the bot- `.tom member.
The lower edge of the top member may be made flat but is preferably finished at a slight angle at 18, so that on being screwed down the Washer will be positively forced against the shoulder of the shell and the threads on top and bottom members of the coin case to form a water-tight joint.
When this case is worn in the position shown in Fig. 2 if the wearer desires to re move a coin therefrom, he gives it the necessary revolutions to disengage the threads and tips it downward in the direction of the arrow A, as shown. The deep cup shaped top is then in a position from which the coins may be withdrawn.
If worn on the wrist as suggested by the position of the case in Fig. 1, the coins when the case is opened, lie within the deep cavity of the base of the shell.
This device is preferably made of such proportions of depth to diameter that it will contain odd sized rings, ear-rings, and other jewelry with sufficient space in its body cavity so that the top may be screwed down and the washer compacted to make the case water-tight. Currency may be carried in this case without being soiled by the salt water.
While in the foregoing, I have described specific embodiments, and have mentioned only certain possible modifications, it will be appreciated that in practice I do not limit myself to such specific details as herein set forth, but may resort to any practical modifications falling within the scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure to me by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A bracelet of the class described comprising an annular threaded base portion adapted to form a coin receptacle; an annular threaded closure for the coin receptacle he adapted for coin display when removed from the base; a washer interposed between the closure and the base; and a strap for attachment to the wearers person.
2. A coin case for bathers comprising u base to form n receptacle; threads' on the base; a washer carried on the base adjacent the threads; a closure for the receptacle hav- 5 ing a threaded portion to cooperate with the threads on the' base, and having a, beveled edge whereby the washer 'is compacted to form a Water-tight joint when the closure is seated, and adapted for coin display when removed from the base.
In testimony whereof 1I aiix my signature.
GAETANO ANTELMJI.
