VEIL.
Application filed December 24, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZEALIE VAN RAALTE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Veils, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to veils worn by ladies, and its object is to provide an article of this class which can be readily and quickly secured to the hat with the least possible delay and trouble in securing the correct adjustment, and which is detachable or removable at all times, and which can be placed back in the correct position on the hat at all times without-undue delay and trouble. These and other improvements are carried out by my invention, a more particular description of which will appear below.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved veil; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the same in use.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved veil consists of an enlarged or body portion 1 which is preferably of semi or partially circular configuration,
,although it is obvious that the same may be of any general outline, according to the draping effect desired. Approximately in the center of the body portion I provide an opening 2, through which opening the crown of the hat passes. IVhile I have shown this opening 2 situated at substantially the center of the body portion, it may be situated at any point on the same. IVhile I have shown Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1916.
Serial No. 68,493.
my improved veil of a netted material, it may be made of any desired fabric and may be embellished with any suitable design.
Projecting from the body portion is a narrow extension which is divided into two parts 3 by the slit 4 which extends in the direction of the length of the parts 3 and extends into the opening 2 in the body portion.
From the foregoing, my improved veil will be readily understood. The crown of the hat is passed through the opening 2 in the body portion and the veil is secured by pinning, or in any other manner securing, the portions 3 together at the point 5, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the portions 3 drape at the rear of the hat and a novel effect is secured.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that I have provided a new and novel veil which can be readily secured on a hat, always in the same position, with the least amount of care and with which only one point of fastening or securing is necessary.
It is obvious that my invention is not restricted to the embodiment herein shown, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claim.
IVhat I claim is:
A veil or the like comprising a body portion, an opening in said body portion, an extension on said body portion and a slit extending from the opening in the body portion to the end of the extension whereby said extension is divided into two parts.
Signed at the city, county, and State of New York, this 22nd day of December, 1915.
ZEALIE VAN RAALTE.
