Figule 4 is 11 section similar to Figure 3 with s1ight modificz1tions in the sheath 01 bandeau.
As s110w11 011 the rawings:
My invention-is shown embodied in a. hat consistmg of a crown 1 und bri'm 2 Which forrn no part' of this invention and therefore the particular shape thereof is immatemal.
p1a11 view of 21 hat showing My invex1tion consists of 21 sheath or bandeau 3 fastened at its l oweredge to the junction of the haberomn 1 and brim 2 in the usual Position f0r 21 sweat band in 21 mans hat. The sheath iscomposed of 21 folded piece of stifl cloth such as certain grades of musli n and'is cut on the bias so as to form a st1fl' springy element. Through t11is folded sheath is threaded 21 tz1pe or ribbon 4, the ends of Which come 0ut :1t the opening for1ned .at the joint 0f the sheath, which may be located at one side 01' the rear of the hat. 011 21 womans hat an z1perture 5 in the crown is alignment with the opening in the sheath andthe ends of the 1ibbon 01 tape am brought through the apertm-e und allowed to dangle over the brirn 0f the hat in the f011n of streamers. within the sheath mz1y be of one kind of material and the s'treamers formed 0f sonne ornarnental fabric.
If desired, an inner lining 6 can be placod in the crown covering the sheath 111d secured t0 the hat by the same stitching that of the hat, one end will be immovable beprovided in approximate Of course, the tape l cau se it is sewed into the heath around the front part while the other end will be the one that contracts the rear prtion of the sheath.
The modification shown in Fig. 4:uses two 'tapes fastened in the sheath, one n each side 0f tlie hat, and when using a side outlet I hat is a good one tape comes directly ont while the other is threaded through the .sheath around-the rear art of the hat. lhe act-ion of this modi cation is identical with the ofiher-form,
simply untying the tizpes would permit readjustment.
In case further elasticity is required 'aften the tapes have been tied in adjustegil position, said tape may be provided w1th one or more elastic inserts which allow of a 06riaain amount of yielding supple'menting i:he yielding of the sheath 3. 1 I am aware th'at nUmemus details 0f constmlction may be varied through a wi ile range without departing f1om the priuciples of this inventiqn, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
In a hat, a sheath attached thereto ab its lower edg'e, and a tape extending around the upper free edge of said sheath and fastened to the portion thereof around the front of the hat, the ends of said tape extending t hrough an aperture in the hat.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in thepresence o1": two
subs cribing witnesses.
