ADJUSTABLE CAKE HOLDING BAND.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 21. I914.

INVE/V TOR s A w ADJUSTABLE CAKE-HOLDING- BAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28, 1915.
Application filed July 27, 1914. Serial No. 853,318.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AMANDA C. CARLSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Cannon Falls, in the county of Goodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Cake-Holding Bands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an adjustable cake-holding band; and, to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings :I*igure 1 is a perspective view of the improved cakeholding band; and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section, taken on the line 12 m of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale.
The numeral 1 indicates a thin sheet metal band or collar, the ends of which are overlapped. One of the overlapped ends of said band is nally' extended slot 2 having lock notches 3; and the other of said ends has rigidly secured thereto a headed stud A. The body of this stud 4 extends through the slot 2, and the head thereof prevents lateral separation of the overlapped ends of the band 1. By moving the overlapped ends of the band 1 edgewise, with respect to each other, the body of the stud 4: may be moved into interlocking engagement with any one of the notches 3, to hold the band 1 locked in different circumferential adjustments.
Mounted to slide on the band 1, is a metallic loop 5 having a knob or finger piece 6, by which the loop may he slid on said band. This loop 5 serves two purposes, to wit, it keeps the overlapped ends of the band 1 against edgewise movement one upon the other, so that the stud 4: will remain inter- Gopies provided with a longitudi-.
of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the locked with the notches 3; and, second, it also serves to loosen the cake and frosting from the band when said loop is moved circumferentially on the band.
Primarily, this cake-holding band is intended to be placed around a baked cake, and serves to prevent the frosting from running down the sides of the cake, when applied thereto. After the frosting is hard, the band may be removed from the cake, or may be left thereon and an ordinary tin cover placed on said band, which band and cover, when the cake is resting on a plate, serve as a cake box, to prevent the cake and frosting from drying out and getting hard. The improved band may be also applied to a cake to prevent the same from being broken, when carried from place to lace.
What I claim is 1. A circumferentially expansible and contractible cake-holding band having over l'appedends, one of said ends being provided with a slot having lock notches, and the other of said ends having a headed stud, the body of which projects through said slot for interlocking engagement with any one of said notches-by edgewise movements of the overlapped ends of the band, with respect to each other, and a loop mounted on the band for holding the overlapped ends thereof against edgewise movement, with respect to each other, and arranged to slide copppletely around the band to loosen the ca *e.
2. A circumferentially expansible and contractible cake-holding band having overlapped ends, and means including a scraping loop for holding the overlapped ends of the bands together, said scraping loop arranged to slide completely around the band to loosen the cake.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMANDA C. CARLSON.
