Specification of Letters Patent.

l Application filed August 30, 1916. Serial No. 117,625.
To all whom, t may concer/n Be it knownA that I, BIsMARoK `R. SCHWARZ, a citizen of the UnitedStates, re siding at Minneapolis,y in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful .Improvements in Ring-Sizing Tweezers; andl do.
hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in tweezers and more particularly to ring sizing tweezers designed to hold and protcct a ring setting and jewel from heat used in soldering, expanding or contracting the ring to change the size thereof.
To the above end, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a view principally in side elevation of the tweezers and illustrating the same holding a ring, some parts of the tweezers being shown in section and` some parts being shown in different positions by means of broken lines;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tweezers, as shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4 4.- of Fig. 3.
The legs of the tweezers are indicated by the numerals 1 and 2 and they are rigidly connected at one of their ends by rivets 3 with a spacing block 4 inserted between said legs. The legs 1 and 2 are made from spring material and tend to separate at their free ends, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1. A metal loop 5 enoircles the legs 1 and 2, with freedom,1 for longitudinal sliding movement thereon, and is provided for holding the free ends of said legs together against the tension of their spring action.
With the loop 5 slid to the front or free ends of the legs 1 and 2, the ring 7 is securely held within the holders 6 and 7, so that the same may be easily handled and, at the same time, its setting and jewel are protected from the heat. The size of the connected ends of the legs 1 and 2 is such that the loop 5 cannot be removed thereover and the holders 6 and 7 prevent the removal of said loop at the other end of said legs. The peculiar shape of the holders 6 and 7 securely holds the wads 8 therein and permits new wads to be substituted for old ones from time to time. While the improved tweezers are illustrated and described as holding a ring to protect the setting and jewel, it is, of course, understood that the same may be used for holding various other articles to protect certain of the parts thereof from heat.
What I claim is 1. Ring sizing tweezers having a relatively small holder and a relatively large holder, and wads of pliable material applied in said holders and within which pliable material a ring setting and jewel may be completely embedded under compression of said holders.
2. Ring sizing tweezers having a pair of holders, and wads of pliable material applied in said holders and within which pliable material a ring setting land jewel may he completely embedded iinder compression of said holders, one of said holders being cup-like and the other thereof having a plurality of hook-like prongs.
3. Ring sizing tweezers having a pair of holders, and fads of pliable material applied in said holders and within which pliable materiel a ring setting and jewel may be completely embedded" under Compression of said holders, one of said holders being @Updike with a @slammed mouth and the other thereof having a plurality of hooklike prongs.
4-.-Ri1f1lgij sizing tweezers having a relatively small holder and a relatively large holder movably connected7 and wads of pliable material applied in said holders and within which pliable material a ring setting and jewel may be completely embedded under compression of said holders.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature 2o in presene'e of two witnesses.
BISMARGK R. SCHWARZ.
