DEVICE FOR HOLDING PROTECTORS UPON THE EDGES 0F COATS, 8w.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11]), 1917.
Application filed April 8, 1916. Serial No. 89,908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH R. lVA'rnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Princess Anne, in the county of Somerset and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Protectors Upon the Edges of Coats, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for holding protectors upon the ed es of coats and consists of a simple and e cient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of a coat showing the application of my invention as holding a protector upon the edges of the coat.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the holding device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, D designates the holding piecemade of a single piece of wire having a straight shank portion D", bent to form oppositely disposed loops D and the wire at corresponding ends of the loops is bent to form the resilient bail-shaped por tions D. Each end of a bail-shaped por tion terminates in an eye D through which the shank portion D passes.
In Fig. 1 0f the drawings, I have illustrated a coat A with a collar A and lapel A and the projecting devices B, shown as held over the meeting edges of the coat, the edges being held near to each other by the loops B which engage over the buttons B To support the protecting device, a strap C is fastened at O to the ends of the protecting devices and passes underneath the lapel and collar.
In applying the holding device, the protectors are adjusted as shown in Fig. 1 and the resilient bail-shaped members of the holder sprung over the meeting edges of the coat opposite each other with the straight shank portions D engaging the edges of the coat. The resiliency of said bail-shaped members will tend to hold the protecting device frictionally in place.
What I claim to be new is A device for holding a protector over the edges of coats, consisting of a single piece of wire having a straight shank portion bent to form oppositely disposed loops, the wire at corresponding ends of the loops being bent to form resilient bail-shaped portions, each end of the wire bent to form an eye engaging the straight shank portion of the wire intermediate the loops.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH R. WATERS.
