CLEANING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
Application filed November 7, 1911. Serial No. 659,029.
To all whom it may concern Be it known'that I, JOHN H. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cleaning device for graphophone records, shoes,- hats, etc., and may also serve as a receptacle for holding such articles as may be desired.
A With the foregoing and other objects in .view, the invention consists in the novel 1 features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.- a
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with the cover partially closed. Fig. 2 is a longitu-- dinal section of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail of the three principal component parts of the device.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of the invention, the device comprises an inner approximately rectangular oblong section 1, which is preferably formed of cold rolled steel, with outwardly inclined end walls 2. The inner section fits snugly within a soft flexible outer casing, of corresponding outline, made of The inner and outer sections are connected by a clamping band 3, which extends entirely around the upper edge of the outer section with its inner edge bent or rolled inwardly, as at 4, leaving a space between the upper edges of the side and end walls of the inner section 1, and the inner rolled edges 4 of the clamping band to receive the slide or cover 5, which is preferably formed of a flat strip of metal. The inner edge of the clamping band is cut away at one end of the device, as at 5, and one end of thecover bent in, as at 6, to fill the space thus formed by cutting away said portion of the band, and to form a finger piece to facilitate the operation of the cover. By this construction, the outer casing or cleaning portion of the device is held taut and rigid, and may be used for cleaning graphophone records, hats, shoes, etc.
As heretofore explained, any material may be used to form the cleaning surface 01' the device, calculated to best fill the requirements.
It will be observed that the interior of the device may be utilized for a, receptacle for holding articles of any description, but it is obvious that the device may be constructed with or without the cover as preferred.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction and advantages of this invention may be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A I device of the character specified comprising an approximately rectangular inner removable section, an outer casing closely fitting and inclosing said inner section, a sliding cover for the inner section and a clamping band extending around the upper edge of the casing to removably secure the latter in place, the inner edge of said band being rolled in to provide means whereby the cover is slidably held in position.
2. A device of the class described comprising an approximately rectangular inner section, an outer rectangular casing closely fitting and inclosing said inner section, a sliding cover for the inner section and a clamping band extending entirely around the upper edge of the outer casing with its inner edge rolled in, leaving a space between the inner edge of the band and the upper edges, of the side and end walls of the inner section to slidably receive the cover.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature I in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. SIMPSON.
