SHOE-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27,1914.
Application filed November 12, 1912. Serial N 0. 730,949.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BOISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wayland, in the county of Allegan and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes and more particularly to travelers shoe brushes.
The object of the invention is the provision of means whereby a complete shoe blacking outfit may be conveniently attached to a brush and whereby the bristles of the brush may be covered so that the device may be conveniently carried in a traveling bag without soiling the clothes or other articles therein.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a brush having a removable back formed in two part-s, one of which is removable so that polish boxes and a dauber or polishing cloths may be carried therein, and a still further object is the provision of a conveniently applied cover for the bristles.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a brush back having a plurality of bristles of diiferent texture with their meeting line arranged diagonally across the brush back.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings 1 represents the brush back which has secured thereto the bristles 2. The brush back 1 is grooved, as at 4 and 5, upon its sides and ends so as to receive he inturned edges 6 of the cover 7. This cover may be constructed of any suitable material and has its sides and ends separated so as to snap into the grooves 4 and 5 and thereby hold the cover in position to shield the bristles. If of metal the cover is preferably nickel plated or otherwise treated so as to give the device a pleasing appearance.
Mounted upon the top of the back is a plate 8 having a recess 9 formed therein to receive a polish or blacking box 10. The outer edge of the plate 8 is grooved, as at 11, to receive the inturneol edges 12 of the top 13. This top 13 is composed of separate sections 14 and 15, the former being permanently secured to the plate while the latter is *slidably mounted thereon and held in closed position by a catch 16. A dauber or other polishin accessories may be carried in the space fbrmed by the cover sections 15 and 16 and when the section 15 is in place and latched and the cover 7 snapped upon the back the parts calculated to soil are entirely inclosed and the device may then be conveniently packed along with the most delicate fabrics. In this instance the dauber 17 is connected to a handle 18 which is in turn secured to the section 15 of the top so that when the top is removed the dauber will be extracted from the section 14 and will remove with it the blacking box and any other accessories which may be arranged in the casing.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A shoe blacking kit including a brush, a casing on the back of the brush and open at one end, a closure for said casing slidably engaged with the brush back and a dauber carried by the closure and adapted to be projected into the casing.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES J. BOISE.
