UNXTFED STATES PATENT oration- SCOTT T. POWER, ZANESVILLE, OHIOI:
SUBGAR,
beneath motor and other vehicles and other objects that are located close to their respective bases, and of which subcar the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sub-cars for conveying persons and things beneath motor and other vehicles, and other objects, that are located so close to their respective bases, that a person cannot move in an erect position beneath the same; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a sub-car withmeans of engaging its parts in their assembled form, but which also adapt it to be knocked-down, or disassembled, and packed or folded into a convenient bundle or package; second, to provide means for holding rigid in their assembled form, all parts of the sub-car; and, third, to lock the car in any sub-location desired. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my subcar assembled. for use; Fig. 2, the view in elevation of the clamp-bolster in open position; Fig. 3, the top plan view of the lower member of the clamp-bolster, or of the bolster proper; Fig. 4, a view in elevation of a bed slat partly folded; Fig. 5, the bottom plan view of a bed-slat fully extended; Fig. 6, the front view, or the left view from Fig. 1, of my shoe-lock, in elevation; Fig. 7 the rear view, or the right View from Fig. 1, of my shoe-lock in elevation; Fig. 8, a perspective view of the left leaf of my hinge; and Fig. 9, a perspective view of the right leaf of my hinge.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1 are bolsters provided with lugs 2, pins 3 and clamps 4, all of which are adapted rigidly to engage with bed-slats 5, and retain them in position on said bolsters, which also are provided with casters or wheels 6, which are adapted to be locked by means of locks 7, which are provided with rests for the wheels, the axles and the bolster ends, and which looks are applied in the same way in which a shoe is put on the foot; and which Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 1,1913; seria1-Nd..7es,717.
casters-or'wheels are setup on said bolsters far enough to allow the bedof the sub-car to lie the. desired distance from the base uponwhich. the car may, stand. Bed-slats 5am, respectively, provided with hinges 8,
the left-hand leaves as-shown' inthe drawing being respectively provided with center lugs 9 having laterally extending web bases adapted to provide bearings for lugs 10, on
the right-hand leaves in the drawing, said lugs 10 having a common, connecting web adapted to provide bearings for said lugs 9 of said left-hand leaves, when the said bedslats are fully extended. Bolsters 1 are, respectively, inclined at each end so that the outside bed-slats lie at angles adapted to keep and support the occupants person on the bed andeach clamp 4 is provided with a lip 12 adapted to engage with latch 13 hinged on its bolster and thereby rigidly to lock in assembled form, all the parts of the sub-car.
I claim- 1. A subcar having bolsters combined with a slat bed platform, and said combination of bolsters and slat bed-platform being adapted to be knocked-down, and each of said slats to be transversely folded-up, and all of said slats to be bunched together, substantially as described.
2. In a sub-car, adapted to be knockeddown, the combination with bolsters having clamps, lugs and pins, substantially as described, of bed-slats having correspondingly formed ends and pin-holes adapted to engage with said bolsters, clamps, lugs and pins, substantially as described.
3. A sub-car having bolsters combined with a bed-platform; and said combination of bolsters and bed-platform being adapted to be knocked-down; and said bed-platform being adapted in its knocked-down relation, to be folded-up, substantially as described.
4:. A sub-car having clamp-bolsters combined with a bed-platform, said combination of clamp-bolsters and bed-platform being adapted to be knocked-down; and said bed-platform being adapted, in its knockeddown relation to be folded-up, substantially as described.
5. A subcar having clamp-bolsters combined with bed-slats, said combination of clamp-bolsters and bed-slats being adapted to be knocked-down; and said bed-slats besubstantially as described.
6. A sub-car having bolsters combined with a bed-platform, and said bolsters and: bed-platform being combined with clamps extended-over the platform and adapted to clamp said bed-platform upon said bolsters; and one of said bolsters engaging with one of said clamps at an end of each, and the opposite ends of each being adapted detachably to engage each other in a clamping position, substantially as described.
7. A sub-car having bolsters combined Copies of this patent may be obtained for with a bed-platli'ornn and said bolsters and bed-platform being combined with clamps adapted to clamp said bed-platform upon said bolsters; and one of said bolsters engaging with one of said clamps at an end of each, and the free end of said bolster being provided with a latch adapted to engage with a catch provided at the free end of said clamp, substantially as described.
