Another object of my inventionis the pro vision of a supplementary cover for the chestor trunk allowing a use of the same as a table whereby the means for locking the parts of the supplementary cover in their closed position may be used as supports for the table boards when used as such."

, A further object of my invention is the provision of a chest having a sliding lower drawer also divided into a plurality of compartments.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of a chest adapted for the reception and storage of folding chairs either made of two wooden frames or having their frames formed by wires.

It is furthermore the object of my invention to provide a chest, trunk or container for the storage of various articles which may be securely locked and readily moved from place to place, and which is of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and serviceable.

These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container, chest or trunk, constructed according to my invention, closed.

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the container, open.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the container, or chest illustrating its use as a table.

Fig. 4 shows a foldable chair adapted to be stored in the container or chest.

Fig. 5 shows a modified form of chair.

As illustrated, the container, chest or trunk has the form of an oblong cube 10 on wheels or rollers 11, having side walls 12 and end walls 13. A cover 14 hinged to one of the side walls, as at 15 is adapted to close the container on top. Iron bands 16 or the like strengthen the end and side walls and are secured thereto in the usual well known manher by. any desired number of fastening pilpans, such as for instance nails 17 or the The top of the cover carries hingedly secured thereto, as at 18 two boards 19, 20, meeting with their inner side edges in approximately the center and held in closed position on top of the cover by means of the bands 21, 22 hinged at their, outer ends to the boards 19, 20, as at 23, 24 and overlapping at their inner ends, as at 25. These overlapping ends are provided with lengthwise extending slots 26 through which passes the pin of a catch 27 turnably secured at its lower end in one of the boards and allowing in its position lengthwise to the slots 26 a turning of the bands, 21, 22, about the cover hinges 23, 24 into the positions illustrated in Figure 3 in which the inner ends of the bands are supported in hollow cleats 28 on the side walls of the trunk below the key-hole 29, for the lock, locking trunk 10, and cover 14, when the latter is closed. When the bands 21, 22 overlap each other, and the catch 27 assumes the position shown in Figure 1, the boards 19 and will be securely held on top of the trunk or chest cover top 30, while in their position illustrated in Figure 8, boards 19, 20 and top 30 will form a table top.

The end wallsot the trunk or chest are equipped with suitable handles 31, While, supplementary fastening means hold boards 19 and20 together in their closed position. These supplementary fastenings consist of clasps pivotally secured at one end to the board 19 and engaging with the recesses 33 in their opposite end pins 3 1 projecting from board 20.. Above the bottom proper of the chest or trunk a drawer 35 is provided adapted to slide into and out of the chest in suitable guides, and to be locked by means of a key inserted into the key hole 36 of a suitable lock.

This drawer is divided by means of the intersecting partitions 37, 38 into a plurality of compartments 39 for the storage of suitable articles.

The interior of the trunk or chest body shows two vertically arranged partition walls forming with the end walls of the chest cornpartments 42, 43 and a central compartment 44. In the upper part of compartment 44 a tray 45 is formed adapted to be closed by a cover 46 hinged to the tray, as at 47 and two compartments are formed in this tray by means of a central partition 48. In cover 14 two compartments are formed by means of a partition 49, adapted to be closed by means of the cover 50, hinged to a rear cover board 51, as at 52, 53.

The compartments formed by partition 49 are well adapted for the storing of articles, such as for instance the two chairs illustrated in Figures 4 and 5.

The chair shown in Figure 4 comprises a back-rest 54 having legs 55 between which the seat 56 is hingedly secured, as at 57. The seat 56 is rearwardly extended to form the two parallel supporting legs 58. It will be clear that when not in use the seat and backrest may be conveniently folded upon each other while the legs 55 and 58 will firmly support the chair when unfolded and used as such.

The chair illustrated in Figure 5 is preferably made from metal. Its frame is formed by Wires 59, 60 forming the rear and front leg pairs respectively and twisted together at their inner ends to form the back rest 61, while the seat 62 has its rear end curled, as at 63, about a wire 64 connecting the base of the back rest.

The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description, and no further explanation is required.

It is to be understood that I have disclosed the preferred form of my device as an eX- ample and that I may make any changes therein as come within the scope of the appended claim without departure from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A trunk or chest comprising a body and a cover hinged thereto, a pair of boards hingedly connected to said cover and adapted to be folded against the top thereof, a pair of bands hingedly secured to saidboards, said bands overlapping with their inner perforated ends, means for holding said bands togcther but allowing a ready separation of same, and a means for locking said boards in their normal position on top of said cover.
