tion to the right about the point 7L until it occupies the normal dotted line position:
Thiscaiises the triangular portion 7L i 7i', to
vpuclrer and ii'crni a fullness across the seatA portion. lt is obi'ions that the saine result may be accomplished by first cutting said rear portion the normal shape shown in dotted lines a ,d then cutting it across the line /L Z, and inserting a triangular piece 71,2'- 1. When the garment i* completed, as shown in Fig. l, the desired fullness produced. in the 'i'form ot a double wedge, wiilest at the center and which provides the necessary cloth. across the seat to allow 'for all ot' thc movenients of the body, as in stooping, bending, etc., Without pulling the nethcr portion above the trousers or w:.iist.-line to forni a bulge above the trousers uymn standing erect. There is no tendency7 therefore7 for the shirt portion to work up and over the belt or top of the trousers.
When the rear of the garment :is made of two pieces, as in Figs. l and 2, the rear pieces, shown in Fig. 9, are provided with an extension upon the inside of the leg, the part from g to m, passing under the crotch. lVhen, however, the rear ot the garment is cut from one piece, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the portion l passing under the crotch forms an extension upon the inside of the leg portion of the front pieces.
One of the main f iurposes of my inven tion is to provide a garment haring a closed crotch and which will permit olf being opened so that one side oit the netlier portion may be drawn toward and across the center in the manner illustrated in Fig. 8. For this purpose I open the outer side of one leg portion from a point p, a little below the Waistlinc n o, to the bottom of the leg and fasten the saine with buttons y or other detachable retaining devices. l have found that it is sufficient to provide such an opening along the side only, as shown in Fi 2. To make the yopening more ample and. to facilitate ease of manipulation, the opening may be continued troni the top point p, inwardly to a point fr, which may be strengthei'ied'with a, gusset. It desired the transverse cut or opening may be carried to the center of the garment, but l' prefer to extend it not more than half-way between the side and the ecn.` tei'. as illiisti'ated, because the rcn'iaiining un broken or :oiiiinuous 'part olf; the leg and seat furnish a iiiin support lor the leg portion and. will not require any buttons along the transverse cut or opening. .ln this man- Iier, the cloth of the entire. le; ora substantial portion thereof is :i .'iintinnous integral part ot the combination ,sfariurifi troni the neck to the bottoni olE the nethcr portion.
'l'hc `fullness or loid :ieri s the scat assists in pro ridingainplc dini/.insioiis to enable thc millier portion to be opened in the inani'ier described, and to he shifted -l'ioin one side of .or hooks to cause discomfort to the wearer.
ine pull from top to bottom is, therefore,- through a straight unbroken piece of fabric.
In Figs. 6 and 7, l have shown the same novel structural features as applied to a sleeping garment.l A belt s, attached to one side at t, and passing through a loop u in the back is adjustably secured at the other side, as by a series or" buttonsholes w, adapted to engage a button fc.
The combination shirt and nether gai'- nient may be made otany desired material. The shirt may be of various styles, as dress or tuxedo style, plain or plaited besoin, or madras or other desirable material for neglige styles. As previously stated, this garment is also well adapted for underwear.
I claim Y l. l'ii a 'union undergarment having a permanently closed crotch and a leg which is closed at its inner and outer sides, an opening originating in the back of the ni'idergarment and extending to the outside ot the remaining leg thereof and then downwardly of said leg, thereby providing a seat flap.
Q. A combination garment comprising in a one piece suit, a shirt and nether garment or drawers, open in front from the neck to the crotch, and having an opening extending from a point below the waist along the outside ot' only one leg portion to the bottom thereof and 'transversely from said' point toward the center in the rear oi.' the garment.
A union undergai'nient haring a permanently closed crotch and an opening originating inits back and extending to the outside ot' only one of the legs of said undergarmeiit and downwardly of said leg, thereby providing a seat flap.
