Description

S. KOFP. BOX CONSTRUCTION. APPLIOATIION FILED MAY 2, 1914.
Peitented Dec. 1,1914
wwweooeo I form the depending edge 10. A band 11in "closes or surrounds the depending edge 10.
- UNITED STATES PATENT- ouron.
SAMUEL KOFF, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
Box cons'rnoorion.
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL'KOFF, a citi* zen of the United States, residing 'at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box Construction;
and I do hereby. declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the Specification of Letters Patent.
invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide apaper or cardboard receptacle which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction and eliicient, strong and durablein use.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, formation and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which,
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the com plete box.. Fig. 2 is a diametrical vertical sectional view therethrough, and Fig. 3 is .a horizontal sectional view therethrough.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 4 angles thereto as clearly indicated in Fig. 2,
and this bending is preferably accomplished by moistening and subsequently bending the edge and retain it in such osition until thoroughly-dry. The bottom is shaped in conformity with the body 5 and is secured to the inturned flange or edge 6 by suitable staples or the like 8.
The cover 9 is bent downwardly on a line representing the shape of the body 5 to cured ther ethrough. The
of the cover 9 and is suitably secured thereto by staples 12. The overlapped ends 13 and 14 of the band 11 and the body 5 are secured together by suitable staples 15 seband 11 is Patented Dec. 1, 1914. Application filed May2, 1914. Serial No. 835,816.
formed with a plurality of spacedopenings '16 adjacent the lower edge of the depending edge 10 and receive therethrough the tongues or extensions 17 formed integral with said edge 10. Suitable'staples 18 are positioned through theton'gues 17 and band 1'1 for securing these parts together.
In use, the band 11 telescopically receives the body-5 as clearly shown in Fig; 5, and the band 11 is materially increased in strength in the plane of the upper edge of the body 5 by the reinforcing tongues 17 of thecover 9.
As clearly showni in Fig.3, the inturned edge 6 of the body 5lis not cut, neither is the depending edge 10 of the cover 9, and this is a very important feature of my invention caused by forming these parts solid and uncut the strength of the boxis materially increased. 1
What I claim is A receptacle comprising a body havlng an inwardly turned edge, a bottom secured to said edge, a cover having a depending edge extending at right angles thereto and tongues formed integral with said depending edge, a band secured to said depend ng edge and having openings therein receiving said tongues, and means for securlng said ton 1es on the outside of said band.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this. specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
