' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. V
HENRY MOOOBB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHOCOLATE-PACKAG E.
SPEGIFICATTON forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,511, dated December 5, 1882.
- Application filed ctober13,1882. (MotleLl To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that l, HENRY MoOonB, of the city, county. and State of New York. have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Chocolate-Packages.of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the'figures.
Figure l is a sectional side elevation of my improvement. Fig.2 is a perspective view of the cover of the package.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of the packages for which Letters Patent No. 259,887 were issued to me June 20, 1852, in such a manner as to make them heater in appearance and a better protection to their contents.
The invention consists in a box or package made with a removable cover, and having agrater secured at its side edges to the side flanges of the said cover, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the body of the package, which can be made of decorated tin or other suitable material. I
B is the cover of the package or box, which is made with flanged edges to fit upon the top of the box A.
To the inner surface of the side flanges of the cover B are secured, by solder or other suitable means, the side edges of the grater O, which is formed of tin, punctured from the inner side or the side next the cover 13, so that the burrs of the punctures or the grating-surface will be outward. The grater G is made shorter than the cover B, so that a space will be left between each end of the grater G and the end flange of the cover- B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2,'t0 allow any of the chocolate or other substance being grated that may pass through.
the punctures of the grater to be readily'removed.
With this construction the package or box, when closed, will have a much neater appearance than when the punctures are formed through the body of the cover, as shown and described in Letters Patent No. 259,887.
With this construction, also, the grater is protected from the dust and from contact with any substance except the one to be grated.
It will be noticed that the flanges of the cover B project beyond the bur-red surface of the grater 0, so that when any substance is being grated the said flanges will form side guides and end'stops for the substance, to guide and limit its movement, making the grater more convenient in use. The projecting flanges also serve to prevent the scattering and wasting of the grated substance.
Havingthus fully described my invention, I
3. In a box or package, the combination,
with the cover B of the box A, of the grater 0, whose burretl surface is below the edges of the flanges of the cover, to provide side guides and end stops to guide and limit the movements of the substance being grated and prevent waste of the grated material, substantially as shown and described.
at. In a box or package, the grater C, arranged in the cover B, with its burred surface below the edges of the flanges of the cover and made shorter than the cover, substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY MGOOBB. Witnesses:
