PAPER BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1920.
Application filed June 15, 1920. Serial No. 389,115.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Vroron E. Lnvorons, a citizen of the United States, residin at Butte, in the county of Silverbow and tate of Montana, have invented a new and useful Paper Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper receptacles, and more particularly to a paper receptacle or box especially designed for shipment in blank form, the box being provided 7 with novel means for securing the sections thereof together so that the same may be set up in box form, and secured in such position.
The object of the invention is to provide a box of this character having metallic interlocking members carried by opposed sections, so that when the sections are moved into parallel relation with each other, the interlocking members may be engaged for causing the sections to be locked together.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a box blank constructed in accordance with the present invention.
2 illustrates a front elevational view of a box in its extended position, part of the front of the box being broken away to illustrate one of the ends thereof.
Fig. 3 illustrates an end elevational view of one end of the box, and
Fig. t illustrates a fragmental sectional view through the locking means carried by the end sections of the box.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the box blank includes a central or body section 5, which when the box is in its extended position, forms the bottom of the box, and this section 5, is shown as provided with end flaps 6 and 7.
Formed integral with the body portion 5, are the lateral sections 8 and 9, the section 9 being also provided with end members 10 which have their outer edges inclined as at 11 and accommodate the securing plates 12,
each of which is provided with the spurs 13 stamped therefrom and adapted to penetrate the material of which the box is formed, for securing the plates to the end members 10.
The securing plates 12 are provided with flanges indicated at 14, which flanges are adapted to interlock with the flanges 16 of the securing plates 17 carried by the end members 15, forming a part of the section 8, the flanges 16 being of a construction to closely engage the flanges 14, when the box is in a folded condition. 7
A section 18 has connection with the section 8, and provides the top of the receptacle, when the box is in a folded position, there being provided a closure flap 19 forming part of the section 18, whichvclosure flap is adapted to overlie the section 9 to close the box. 7
A suitable securing means which includes a flexible member 20 carried by the closure flap 19, forms a part of the box, the flexible member being adapted for positioning around the button 21 carried by the section 9.
It is of course understood that this box is v 'to be shipped in blank form, and that the same is folded into box form by moving the sections 8 and 9 into parallel relation with each other, turning flaps 6 and 7 inwardly, and finally interlocking the securing plates.
The top section 18, is of course folded over the open portion of the box, and the securing means is now positioned to secure the top or closure in this position.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A paper receptacle comprising a central body portion, lateral sections formed integral with the body portion and adapted to be folded upwardly, end members carried by the lateral sections, the outer edges of the end members being inclined, metallic securing plates adapted to be folded over portions of the end members, each of said securing plates having a flange formed integral therewith, said flanges adapted to be interlocked to secure the lateral sections together, and said flanges being inclined to set up a wedging action between the same when they are interlocked.
2. A paper receptacle comprising a central body portion, lateral sections formed integral with the body portion and adapted UNITED STATES PATENTLOFFICE.
to be fielded upwardly, end' members carried In testimony that I claim the foregoing by the lateral sections, metallic securing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signa- 10 plates carried by the end members, means ture in the presence of two witnesses.
for securing the securing plates to the "end;- VICTOR E LINDFORS members, and said securing plates being constructed to set up a wedging action when Vitnesses:
they are moved into cooperative relation JOSEPH J. MOCAFFERY,
