WHISK-BROOBI HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914.
Application led September 13, 1912, Serial No. 720,267. Renewed .Tune 11, 1914. Serial No. 844,590.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, .ALFRED HoY'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Balti more city, State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vhisk- Broom Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to whisk broom holders, the object in view being to provide a simple, convenient and effective device of the class described, in which a pair of yielding spring pressed jaws are employed for engaging and holding the whisk broom, the several parts of the hanger being detachably connected together, and so combined as to mutually fasten and retain each other in lace.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete whisk broom holder, embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of the base. Fig is edge view of the complete holder. Fig. f1 is a detail view of one of the jaws. Fig. 5
is a plan view of the spring hanger.
Referring to the drawings, l designates a base which is made in the form of a horseshoe, as shown, thereby adding to the ornamental appearance of the device as a whole. The base l is provided in the opposite sides thereof with openings 2 in the form of slots extending transversely across the side portions of the shoe shaped base and having the central portions thereof enlarged, as shown at 3, for the purpose of receiving the studs on the pivoted jaws, hereinafter described.
Mounted pivotally on the base are two jaws 4c, each of which is substantially square in shape and provided on its inner edge and adjacent to the upper corner thereof with a rearwardly extending stud 5, having an enlarged head 6, the stud being adapted to be passed through the hole in the base, ane given a partial turn, so that the head of the stud will be brought to bear against the rear side of the base, thereby preventing the jaw from becoming disconnected from the base. On its outer edge, each jaw is also provided with a headed stud 7 so that the two jaws may be connected by a ilexible broom restraining band or tape 8, thereby preventing any possibility of the whisk broom, shown at 9, from becoming detached from the holder.
10 designates a combined spring and hanger which is substantially U-shaped, as shown, and has the lower terminals thereof bent and extended outward in opposite directions, as shown at l1, said bent ends being passed through holes 12 adjacent to the upper corners of the jaws, the spring terminals of the hanger thus acting in an outward direction on the upper portions of the jaws above the pivotal connections of the same, and serving to press the lower portions of th'e jaws to-ward each other, the inward movement of the lower portions of the jaws being limited by stop pins or shoulders 13 projecting from the base l.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the jaws are locked to the base by means of the headed studs, and the hanger is connected to both of the jaws by passing the hook-shaped terminals thereof through openings in the jaws. In this way, all parts of the device are securely locked and held together. It is only the work of an instant to remove the spring hanger, and thereafter detach the jaws from the base, thus enabling the device to be packed in a small compass for storage or transportation.
What is claimed is:
l. A whisk broom holder, comprising a base, pivotally mounted jaws thereon, and a spring hanger connecting said jaws and operating to hold the jaws against the whisk broom.
2. A whisk broom holder, comprising a base, pivotally mounted jaws detachable therefrom, and a spring hanger detachably connected with said jaws and operating to hold the jaws against the whisk broom.
3. A whisk broom holder, comprising a base, jaws having headed studs detachably fitted in openings in the base, and a spring hanger connecting said jaws and operating to hold the same against the whisk broom.
4. A whisk broom holder, comprising a base, pivotally mounted jaws thereon, a
spring hanger connecting said jaws and 0pbroom, and studs on said jaws adapted to era-*omg to hold the jaws agzunst the Wlnsk resolve and hold a flexlble broom restralner.
broom, and stops on the base for limiting ln testimony whereof l a'HX my signature the movement of the j aws. in presence of two Witnesses.
5 5. A Whisk broom holder, comprising a ALFRED HOYT.
base, pvotally mounted aws thereon, a VVtneSses: spring hanger connecting said j aws and op- A JNO. D. BOWERS, eratng to hold the jaws against the Whisk DENTON GEHR.
