DETACI-ZABLE BUTTON.
1 1 1 35 Specification of Letters Patent.
all whom may concern:
t known that if, hilanrrn' SonnNsnN, a i i of" the United States, and resident o tne citv of Seattle. coun King, and Wash -gtoin ha e invented certain nd useful improvements in Detachable utt. ns, of which the following is a speciention relates to improvements nd more particularly to buttons his character wherein two parts e adapted to be locked toge her from opposits sides of a garment, to secure the button position for use.
is the principal object Of the invention to prov e a button having a head portion provided with openings for receiving the lock g heads of a pair of prongs extended locking shoe, or disk, after the said have been projected through a garthe like, in such manner as to secure head in functional position. It is also an object of the invention to provide a button of this character wherein the head is eouipped with an opening which l permit insertion of a tool to release wi l c the locking member and the disconnection of the,
In accomplishing these and other objects the invention, l have provided the imdetails of structure. the preferred s or which are illustrated in the acco1n- ...fVl11Q drawings, wherein re 1 is an enlarged perspective view of the two parts of a button embodying the present invention, shown in detached relation.
is a transverse, sectional view of when attached. x is inner face view of the button head; particularly illustrating the opening and arcuate slot wherein the locking prongs ant heads are inserted.
Referring more in detail to the drawings: 1 designates the head of a button embodying the present invention comprising an outer circular wall 2 provided with a central opening 3, and an inner wall 4 of smaller diameter than the outer wall and spaced therefrom by a connecting wall or neck 5, which, with the outer wall 1, forms a peripheral flange 6 for entering the button hole of the article with which the button is used.
Adapted to be detachably secured to the head, is a locking disk, or shoe 7, of about the same diameter as the wall 4, or larger if Patented Feb, 8, 1%21. 192:). serial No. 362,613.
t esired, and provided with two spaced apart prongs, or pins, 9, that extend perpendicularly therefrom and which, at their outer ends, are equipped with pointed heads 10, having inwardly facing shoulders 11 at their outer sides facing toward the disk.
To look the par s together, the two prongs are projected, through openings 12and13 in the inner wall of the head 1; the opening 12 being only of sullicient size to receive the head of the prong extended therein, while the opening 13 has an arcuate slot 1 1 leadtherefrom, with the opening 12 as a center, into which the other prong may move, and in doing locking relation with the button head 1.
A spring wire 16 is secured atone end within the button head with its free end extended across the slot 14. The wire is yieldable in one direction to permit it to be pressed from the path of the head when the parts are being locked together but will not yield in the other direction and thus will retain the parts in locked position.
In using the button, the locking disk is placed on the inside of the garment and the prongs 9 pressed outwardly therethrough to expose the heads 10 at the outer side. The button head is then applied to the prongs by inserting one prong into the opening 12 and the other into the enlargeo end 13 of the slot 14 and then turning the head so'that the latter prong will move along the slot 14: toward its closed end and will pass back of the spring wire 16. W hen the prongs are in this locked position the shoulders 11 will each engage the under sides of the wall 4: and will prevent the parts from being dctached.
If it is desired to detach the parts, a pointed tool may be inserted through the opening 3 in the outer wall of the head 1 and the spring wire 16 pressed aside to permit the prong to move along the slot to the opening 13 which will permit unseating of the shoulders and the disconnection of the parts.
l Vhat I claim as new is:
1. A button of the character described comprising, a head portion having two spaced openings therein and having an arcuate slot leading from one of said openings about the other as a center, a locking shoe having a pair of prongs extending from one side thereor adapted to project into said head openings and having locking heads at so will shift the heads 10 into their ends which look within the head when the shoe is'turned to move one ofsaid prongs into the arcuate slot and yieldable means secured Within the head for retaining the prongs in locked relation to the head. 7
2. A button or" the character described comprising a head portion having two spaced openings therein and having an area 3. A button of the character described inner wall having two spaced openings" therein with an arcuate slot leading from one opening about the other as a center, a locking" shoe having a pair of prongs e1;- ten'ding therefrom to be projected into said inner wall. openings and having shouldered heads at their ends, for locking the parts together when the shoe is turned on the head to move one of sa' d prongs into the arcuate slot, and a spring wire secured within the head having a free end extending yieldahly across the slot to normally prevent removal of the prong from the slot but which may be pressed aside by the insertion of a pointed tool through the opening of the oute wall to permit disconnection'ot the parts.
Signed at Seattle, Washington, this 12th day of February, 1920.
