This inventionrelates to button forms adapted to be covered with cloth and -has for its object to provide a button form of this character adapted for general use and especially adapted for use by cloak-makers,

With these and other objects in view, I

have devised the novel button form which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying'drawl'ng forming a portion of this specification and using referencecharacters to indicate the several parts I Figure 1 is a section of the front plate of my novel button form with the cover secured in place thereon; Fig. 2 a view as seen from the right in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 an elevation of the front plate detached; Fig. 1 an elevation of the clamping plate detached; Fig. 5 a section of an assembled button; Fig. 6 a section of the clamping plate on the line 66 in Fig. 4; Fig. 7 an elevation on a reduced scale of a button illustrating a use of my novel button form where two color buttons are required; Fig. 8 a section of the ring, detached, which is used in connection with my novel button form in the type of button illustrated in Fig. 7, and Fig. 9 is a section of a completed button corresponding with Fig. 7.

My novel button form comprises a front plate 10, a clamping plate 11 and a shank 12 having an eye 13. The front and clamping plates may be made of metal, celluloid, vulcanized fiber, or any suitable material. The front plate is shown as concavo-conveX in form and is provided in its face with a central depression lt and a slot 15 across the depression. The form illustrated in Figs. 7 8 and 9 differs in the addition of a ring 22 of greater diameter than the front plate, which may be covered by a fabric of contrasting color or an entirely different style of fabric. The ring is given a suitable ornamental configuration to correspond with the front plate and is provided in its face with a depressed flange 23 against which the edge of the covered front plate rests. The ring is covered with cloth in the same manner as the front plate, the cover of course extending over the opening in the ring. The clamping plate in this form does not engage the front plate as before but is of greater diameter and engages the back of the covered ring, as clearly shown in Fig. 9, in which the cover of the ring is indicated by 24. In assembling, the head of the shank is placed in the depression in the front plate as before, covers are placed over the front plate and the ring, the edge placed in engagement with the back of the cover of the ring, the eye is passed through hen it 1s required to remove the" the ring cover and through the slot in the clamping plate and then the shank is givena partial turn to cause the inner end of the eye to drop into the groove and lock the shank against rotation, as before. The disassembling for the purpose of recovering either front plate or ring is the same as before. I

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A button form comprising a front plate having a central depression and a slot crossing the depression, a shank'having a head adapted to engage the depression and an eye adapted to be passed through the slot, and a clamping plate having a central depression and a slot crossing the depression, through Which the eye may be passed, the parts being locked in place by giving the shank a partial turn.

2. A button form comprising a front plate having a central slot, a shank having a head adapted to engage the face of the front plate and an eye adapted to be passed through the slot, and a clamping plate having a central slot through Which the 'eye maybe passed, the parts being locked in place by giving the shank a partial turn.

3. A button form comprising a front plate having a central depression and a slot crossing the depression, a shank having a head adapted to engage the depression and an eye adapted to be passed through the slot, and a clamping plate having a central depression, a slot crossing the depression through which the eye may be passed and a groove adapted to be engaged by the inner end 'of'the eye to lock the parts in place. In combination, a front plate having a central slot, a shank having a head adapted a cloth cover placed over the front plate and secured at the back, and a clamping plate having a central slot through Which the eye may be passed, the parts being locked in ring and secured at the back, and a clamp-' ing plate having a central slot through Which the eye may be passed, the parts being'locked in place by giving the shank a partial turn;

6. A button form comprising a front plate having a central slot, a shank having a head adapted to engage the face of the front plate,-

and an eye adapted to be passed through the slot, a ring of greater diameter than the front plate through Which the shank is to engage the face of the front plate and an eye adapted to be passed'through the slot,

passed, and a clamping plate having a central slot through which the eye may be passed, the parts being locked in place by giving the shank a partial turn.
