Description
Dec. 12, 1967 c. M. EIBEN I 3,357,063 I TIE TACK ASSEMBLIES Filed May 21, 1965 INVENTOR C sper Melvin Eiben QEE/W? United States Patent O 3,357,063 TIE TACK ASSEMBLIES Casper Melvin Eiben, 124 Dutch Lane, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15236 Filed May 21, 1965, Ser. No. 457,650 2 Claims. (Cl. 24-49) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tie tack having an ornamental member on a pin passing through the tie, and an opening in the pin receiving a releasable ring on a flexible connecting means attachable to a buttonhole of a wearers shirt.
This invention relates to tie tacks and particularly to a tie tack including a safety assembly which prevents loss of the decorative tie tack assembly.
Tie tacks have been used to hold neckties in place for many years. One of the problems that has faced this particular art is the loss of the pin or decorative part of the tie tack. In order to overcome this problem, various types of so-called clutches have been proposed. For example, Patents 1,145,726, 1,281,844, 1,358,465, 1,442,824, 2,500,- 114, 2,948,936 all show various forms of friction clutch assemblies for holding a tie pin or tack in place. The difficulty with these clutches has been that they weaken on use or are not firmly placed and as a result slide 01? the pin, permitting it to be lost.
I have invented a tie tack assembly which overcomes these problems. In a preferred embodiment of my invention, I provide an ornamental member adapted to overlie a portion of the face of the necktie and having a pin with a point to pass rearwardly through the necktie, a diametric opening through said pin spaced rearwardly from said ornamental member a distance substantially equal to the thickness of a necktie, a releasable ring member passing through said opening, flexible connecting means engaging said ring at one end and having a toggle member at the other end adapted to engage a buttonhole. Preferably, I also provide a frictionally engageable member releasably engaging the pin rearwardly of the opening and overlying a portion of the rear face of the tie.
In the foregoing general description of my invention, I have set out certain objects, advantages and purposes of my invention. Other objects, purposes and advantages of this invention will be apparent from a consideration of the following description and the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 is an exploded isometric view of a tie tack according to my invention; and
FIGURE 2 is a side elevation of the tie tack of FIG- URE 1 assembled in a necktie.
Referring to the drawing, I have illustrated a decorative or ornamental member 10 adapted to overlie a portion of the face of a necktie 11. The ornamental member 10 is fixed to one end of a pin 12, the other end of which is provided with a point 13. An opening 14, similar to a needle eye is provided rearwardly spaced from ornamental member 10 a distance substantially equalling the thickness of the necktie. A spring ring 15 having an openable spring loaded tongue portion 16 is adapted to be engaged through the opening 14. Chain 17 is fixed at one end to the ring 15 and at the opposite end is provided with a toggle bar 18 adapted to slidably fit through a buttonhole 19 of a shirt 20. Preferably, a friction clutch 21 of well known form is slidable onto the end of pin 12 to a point adjacent opening 14 to provide added safety and balance to the assembly. A flange eye 22 may be provided on the periphery of clutch 21 to be engaged by the spring ring 15 as an alternative single safety means.
In the foregoing specification and in the accompanying drawing, I have set out a preferred embodiment of my invention. It will be understood, however, that this invention may be otherwise embodied within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A tie tack comprising an ornamental member adapted to overlie a portion of the face of a necktie and having a pin with a point to pass rearwardly through the necktie, a diametric opening through said pin spaced rearwardly from said ornamental member a distance substantially equal to the thickness of a necktie, a releasable ring member passing through said opening, and flexible connecting means engaging said ring at one end and having a toggle bar clothing engaging member at the opposite end.
2. A tie tack as claimed in claim 1 having friction clutch means releasably frictionally engaging said pin rearwardly of the opening.
