JOHN E. GRAY, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
FASTENING FOR SPLASH-BOARDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1914.
Application filed July 28, 1913. Serial No. 781,703.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. GRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Splash-Boards, of Which the followlng is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a simple and cheap means for attaching the splash-board of a kitchen sink to the wall without the use of a furring board, and this object is attained by the device to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanylng drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical section of the splashboard showing the fastening means thereof, and'Fig. 2 is a face view of one of the fastener members removed.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the splash-board of a kitchen sink 6, a fragment only of the latter being shown as it forms no part of the present invention. The means whereby the splash-board is fastened in place on the wall 7 comprises two complementary bracket members, each of which consists of a base plate 8 having vertically alined, outstanding integral lugs 9 on its face, said lugs being provided with longitudinal slots 10' which latter open through the extremities thereof.
One of the herein described members is secured to the wall 7 and the other member is fastened to the back of the splash-board 5, said members having slots 11 through which the fastening means pass. The members are then bolted together by means of ordinary stove bolts 12, which latter are passed through the slots 10, the members being positioned so that the lugs of one overlap the lugs of the other, and the slots, of the overlapping lugs register. The slots 11 allow the members to be slightly shifted if the lugs do not register properly. The
lugs 9 have outstanding longitudinal flanges 13 on one side, said flan es being located, respectively, above and below the slots 10. The nuts 14 whereby the bolts 12 are secured are located between the flanges, and
are prevented thereby from turning.
Plumbing and fitting the furring board on the wall to which the splash-board is fastened is a tedious job as now done, whereas with the herein described bracket members the furring board is dispensed with, and the splash-board can easily and quickly be mounted in place, and adjusted and plumbed.
The number of pairs of bracket members employed will depend on the size of the splash-board.
I claim:
1. A fastening comprising complementary bracket members, each of which comprises a base plate having outstanding lugs which are slotted longitudinally, the members being positioned in opposite relation, with the lugs of one base plate overlapping the lugs of the other base plate, and the slots thereof registering, and fastening bolts passing through the registering slots.
2. A fastening comprising complementary bracket members, each of which comprises a base plate having outstanding lugs which are slotted longitudinally, and said lugs having outstanding longitudinal flanges on one side extending along opposite sides of the slots, the members being positioned in opposite relation, with the lugs of one base plate overlapping the lugs of the other base plate, and the slots thereof registering, and fastening bolts passing through the registering slots.
- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
