Description

W. P. ABE'NDROTH.
CQOKING-STOVE. No. 173,875. Patented Feb. 22, 1876.
WITNESSES.
IN'VENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
WILLIAM P. ABENDROTH, OF PORT CHESTER, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COOKlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,875, dated February 22,1876; application filed October 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown th at I, WILLIAMP. ABENDROTH, of Port Chester, countyiof Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new, and useful Improvements in (looking-Stoves, &c.; and the following is a correct specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is an end elevation of a stove, showing the improvements in section, and Fig. 2 is a top view on plan of the stove orrange.
It is often the case that such stoves require to be placed in such a position that the pipe may be more conveniently placed on the top than on the back of the stove or range, and vice versa, thereby requiring an entire change of the pipe-connections, whenever the stove is moved to another location.
Now, the object of this invention is to provide a stove or range having this facility of change,or opportunity of placing the pipe either on the top or side, as may be desired; and the invention consists in making two holes, one on the top and the other on the side or back, precisely alike in shape and size, and providing a cover for one and a movable flanged rim for the other; and then providing each with a bar and screw-bolt to fasten them in proper position when desired, and so that they may be alternates--the one for the otherwhenever the location of the pipe is to be changed.
At A is represented a round hole in the top of the stove and near the back edge, and at a right angle to it, and on the back side is made another hole, as at B, which opens into a flue, as at O, which is recessed into the back side of the oven D, as at Fig. 1.
Both of said holes A and B are of the same size and shape, and a cover, as at E, is made to fit either of said holes, and upon its under side is tapped a screw-thread, into which a bolt may be screwed through a bar, as at F,
which reaches across the hole, so that the cover may be fastened upon either hole, if desired.
A flanged ring, as at G, is also made to fit either of said holes, in precisely the same manner as the cover, and, by having a bar extend across its base to receive a screw-bolt, it may be fastened over either hole in the same manner as the cover, if desired, and thereby they become interchangeable with each other, and said flanged ring serves to receive the first joint of the pipe, and to hold it in position upon the stove or range, as the case may be.
Now, it is evident that, by such an arrangementgif the pipe, flange, or ring G be placed on the back side, as shown in the drawings, then the hole in the top may be used as a boiler-hole and the cover need not be fastened thereon, and this constitutes one of the great advantages of such a construction, as it gives an extra boiler-hole on the top of the stoveor range whenever the pipe is placed on the side, and, at the same time, furnishes a stove that is adapted for having the pipe placed 011 the top, whenever it becomes more convenient to have it so connected.
It is also evident that other means for holding the cover on the ring on the stove may be used without departing from the nature of the invention.
I therefore claiin A cooking stove or range provided with two pipe-holes, one ofwhich may be used as a boiler-hole, in combination with an interchangeable cover and a flanged collar for the pipe, adapted to fit in either hole, substan tially' as described.
WILLIAM P. ABENDROTH.
