Letters Patent No. 98,282, dated December 28, 1 869; antedated December 15, 1869;

CHARCOAL COOKING-FURNACE.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the namev tion of the construction and operation of the same,

reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure I is a perspective view, showing the external. form and combination of parts, asrput together for use, and

Figure II, a vertical section, showing the internal arrangements for the fire, with the'direction of the draught and heat-currents.

The structure, as shown in Fig I, consists of a bell-shaped cylindrical bed or stove-body, marked B, surmounted by a movable circular lid or cover,"O, with openings for cooking-utensils, and a draught-pipe, D, the latter rising through the centre of the lid, and arranged for holding a vessel for cooking-purposes.

The interior of the furnace is shown more fully in Fig. I'Il v The grate G holds the charcoal, throughwhich the air passes furnished by the draught-door O, and ascending up through the pipe D, as shown at e e. I

The gridiron E and the cover F are part of the cooking-utensils required in culinary operations, the whole constituting a simple charcoal cooking-stove,- differing from the charcoal-furnaces heretofore in use, principally in havinga short pipe, rising sufficiently to create draught through the fire, and answering as a boiler-holder at the same time, and also, in having more facilities forvarious uses at the same time, on account of the number of openings in the cover for cooking-utensils.

It may be made of any material used for stoves or furnaces of other kinds.

The use of a draught-pipe, answering the double purpose of drawing the heat-current through it, and serving also as an opening for cooking-purposes at the same-time, in connection with the other parts of the furnace, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.-
