GAS-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1916.
Application filed August 25, 1915. Serial No. 47,241.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK B. JACK- SON and ALFRED B. Vnsrnn, both citizens of the United States, and both residents of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Gas-Stove, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to a means whereby to prevent the accidental turning of gas cocks by a person or object moving past the gas stove.
In our invention we utilize the gas supply pipe to constitute the guard for the gas cocks. The gas supply pipe is positioned horizontally in front of the gas cocks and nearly at the level thereof, at a distance to permit the gas cocks to turn in an are from the closed to the open position in an outward direction, so that when the cock is open the lever or handle will be disposed at right angles to the gas supply pipe and its outer end adjacent to the as pipe, and protected thereby, although proj ecting somewhat above the gas pipe to be conveniently grasped.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a gas stove attachment embodying our invention, showing the same applied, and Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and on an enlarged scale.
Our invention is applicable to any standard make of gas stove indicated by the letter A, having Bunsen elements B formed with air inlets C, as usual, and adapted to receive gas cocks of any approved form. The individual gas pipes 11 leading to the cocks 10 are connected with the horizontal gas supply pipe 12 by upstanding necks 13.
The gas supply pipe 12 is positioned in front of the handles or levers 15 of the gas cocks and at such a distance therefrom that when the handle is swung to the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the outer end of the handle will be adjacent to the inner side of the supply pipe 12. The upper side of the handle 15 will thus project sufficiently above the gas pipe to allow the handle to be conveniently grasped. The position of the gas pipe in front of the handle acts, however, as an effective fender.
By the described arrangement an effective guard is provided for the gas cocks whereby they cannot be accidentally turned, and the function and result are obtained without the use of an adventitious guard element, it being understood that the gas supply pipe 12 is the conventional one, acting as a manifold to the respective individual gas cocks and their separate connections 11, the distinction being that the said supply pipe is arranged to function as a guard.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An attachment for gas stoves, including a plurality of gas cocks having means to connect the same with burners, and a gas supply pipe ranging in front of the cooks and connected therewith, the said gas pipe being positioned at a height to constitute a fender to prevent accidental contact of an object with the handles of the gas cocks, while permitting the latter to be turned to open position at approximately right angles to the gas pipe.
2. An attachment for gas stoves, including a plurality of gas cocks having means to connect with gas burners, and a gas supply pipe common to the gas cocks and disposed in front thereof to constitute a fender, the said supply pipe having connections with the individual gas cocks and distant from the cooks sufiicient to permit the handles to be swung outwardly toward the supply pipe so that the outer ends of the handles will lie adjacent to and at the inner side of said supply pipe when the cocks are in the open position, said handles projecting at the upper sides above the upper side of the gas pipe.
In testimony whereof we have subscribed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
