To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. Dnnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lindale, in the county of Floyd and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Clamp, of which the following is a specification.

This. invention relates to an improvement in clamps.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a clamp for table legs, to which the top of the table may be attached.

A further object of the invention is to provide a clamp which with slight alterations will be equally adapted for square or round tables and which will support the table legs and in tables, other than pedestal tables form a part of the side of the table to which the top is secured.

iVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made with in the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a top plan view of the clamp. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view, showing the clamp arranged for use with pedestal tables. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the clamp. Fig. 5 is a plan View showing a slightly modified form of clamp. Fig. 6 is a plan view showing a still further modified form of clamp.

In the drawings, the preferred form of clamp consists of the rectangular boxing 10, the bore 11 of which is reduced at the upper end by the plate 12, the legs projecting within the boxing, the portion 14 of the plates 12 contacting with the shoulder of the legs to reduce the extension of the leg which is secured to the table extending through the apertures in the plates 12. It will be noted that while this plate is shown as separate from the rectangular boxing, the same may be formed integral with said boxing. Extending radially from the boxing and secured thereto in any suitable manner are a plurality of attaching plates 15 which are connected by the brace plate 16 which is d isposed tangentially with respect to the box- Specifieation of Letters Patent.

ing, the central portion of said plate being provided with an opening 17 which registers with an opening 18 formed in the boxing, a set screw 19 passing through said opening, contacting with the legs to hold the same securely in the boxing.

The attaching plates 15 are provided with apertures 20 which receive screws or other securing devices which are arranged to pass through the side plate of the table, securely locking the leg supporting clamp to the table. It will be noted by this construction that it will be unnecessary to secure the reduced extension of the legs to the top of the table, the attaching of this legto the table top having a tendency to mar the top and when the legs are attached directly to the top, the same o'tttimes produce an uneven support for the table, there being no means for adjusting the legs with respect to the table. It will be noted that in the present construction, the length of the legs may be varied by adjusting the screw 19, thereby adjusting the same within the boxing and tightening the screw 19.

In the preferred form, the attaching plates extend from the boxing at a point adjacent to the edges of the same. This construction being provided for square tables in which the legs are disposed adjacent the edge of the table. In tables in which the tops are supported by pedestals, the construction shown in Fig. 3 is employed. This construction differentiates from the construction shown in Fig. 1 only in the addition of two attaching plates 21 and 22, the plates in this construction extending from the center of the sides oi" the boxing being clamped to the blocks which are secured to the under face of the table top, the central leg of the table extending within the boxing 24, a plurality of: set screws being employed in this form, as well as a plurality of connecting braces 25. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the boxing is shown as rounded as at 26, it being noted that in this form as well as in the form shown in Fig. 1, that the attaching plates 16 are not co-extensive with the plates 27 of the boxing, the side walls 28 oi the table abutting the shoulder thus formed, said side walls being secured to the attaching plates 16 by the bolts 29 or any other suitable securing device.

In the form shown in Fig. 6, the device 15 and the boxing, it being noted that in this form the plate 16 rests against one face of the boxing and not in contact with one of its corners as in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 5. v

The many advantages of clamping devices of this construction will be clearly apparent, as it will be noted that the same provides an adjustable connection between the table and leg in which the leg may be readily removed for the purpose of shipment, it being noted that the devlcemay be readily attached tothe table and that the entire construction is such as, may be easily and economically manufactured.

What 1s claimed 1s:

A table leg clamp comprising, a boxing,

a plate secured to the upper portion thereof and provided with a square openlng extendmg therethrough to form a shoulder, at-

taching plates formed integral with said boxing and extending radially therefrom, said plates being adapted to securely fasten the boxing to and flush with the sides of the table, said plates conforming with the table sides contour, a brace plate formed integral with the attaching plates and ext-ending tangential to the boxing, said brace plate and boxing provided with alined apertures, means extending within said apertures adapted to secure the table leg to and at a certain height within the boxing, said means further adapted to rigidly secure said brace plate with said boxing to thereby form a triangular skeleton structure.
