v g. r UNITE@ BWATBB BATBT @BEIGE EMIL WERNER, ON PENNSYLVANIA.
specification of Letters Patent. Application filed ctober 9, 1907. Serial No. 396,596..
No. 920,509 Patented May 4, 1909.
eyes Gfirnily brace the corners of said boards on the interior thereof. Furthermore, the angular portions of the' bars C enter the spaces between adjacent boards B, as at K,
To all 'u1/rom it may concern: I Be it known that I, EMrL WERNER, a citi-i, zen ol the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Bennsylvania, have invented a new and useful so said boards may abut iirinly against the Furniture-Leg Fastening, of which the fol-Ii same, thus increasing the strength ofthe corlowing is a specification. l ners of the boards. My invention consists of an improved leg l The lower ends of the bars C are each proof a table, bench, chair or other sirnilar arti vided with an inturned eye L, and the lower cle of furniture provided with rneans for conends of the bottom sockets D are each 10- necting and strengthening the corners ol the vided 'with an inturned ear M, Whic is top boards orfranie thereof on the interior adapted to rest against the underside of the thereof. eye L, said ear having a slot N therein, It lalso consists of ine-ans for i'irinly holdingl through which is passed the screW or bolt P, the legs of the article on said frame and aswhich also passes through the opening in the sisting to further connect and strengthen the eye L and has on which is adapted to bear on said eye, and which when tightened, firinly clamps said eye and earand serves to su port the same, one on the other in vertical f irection.
It'will be seen'that the sockets D are of different diameters, so as to wedgingly receive a table leg such as R and hold the same steadily and firmly therein. Figures 1 and represent elevations of the It will also be seen that the slots in the exterior and interior members of a de l:ice ears of the bars C embodying-my invention. Figs, 3 and fl applied to boards B represent horizontal sections of the sainev and receive the boltsl respectively on lines r-r and yat', Fig. 1. of the lengths of said E 5 represents a vertical section thereof on I l It alsoconsists in ada'iting said means to be adjusted to frames-of c ierent thicknesses of material.
It also consists in adapting thc connectingl and strengthening ineens on the interior and exterior ot' the corners to sustain and brace each other.
slots, and so preserve line zz, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding,- parts in the figures.
Referring' to the drawings z-A designates a portion of the top of table, and B designates the boards of the side frame thereof beneath said top, At the corners of said boards on the interior thereof, are the angle ,l bars or lates C, and on the exterior thereof I' are the eg-rr'aceivinfr rings or sockets l). @n l bars, the same being true of the ears M and bolts N, which connect said ears with the eyes L.
In the leg R are screws or plugs S, Which are inserted into the side of the saine, sothat the heads thereof are on the exterior thereof and so disposed that when the leg is iittcd in the sockets D, said screws, if so desired, may contact with the interior of said-sockets, so that in the event of a space existingl between the leg` and sockets, due to contracting or shrinking of the leg, thereof, the screws may be rotated t0 place the heads thereof so hold the leg avoiding Wabbling and sition of the saine.
While I have specified certain means for carryingout my improvements, I do not wish to be limited exactly to the same, but desire to inake such changes as may come within the scope ofthe novelty involved.
Having thus described my I claim as new positers Patent, isz- B, and they with their i 1.v In an article of furniture of the characthe sides of the linibs of the bars C, are the ears E in which are horizontally-extending slots?.
Radiating from the sockets D are eyes G, through Whose openings are passed the screws or bolts H, which also pass through f the boards B and the slots F of the ears l Nuts J are 'fitted on the threaded ends of said i bolts and adapted to bear on the oars E, l whereby when said nuts are tightened, the l bars C are firmly held in contact with the i boards B, thus providing a strong connection for adjacent boards, and iirinly bracing the corners of said boards on the interior thereof. The sockets D are also securely held in tion on the boards close to the sockets, "and firmly in position, while also irregularity in the poits threaded end the nut Q,
