Be it known that I, Join: lV. VVILSON, a citizen of the United vStates, residing at Dorsey in the county'of Itawamba and State of Mieissipph have invei'ited certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage -ieceptacles, of which the following is a spia-itication, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.

Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in garbage receptacles and has for its objectto provide a sanitary device of this character which is adapted for use in a small village 01 in the country where there is no sewerage system.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of eflicieney and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture, and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and thocombination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying. drawings, in which: I

My improved garbage receptacle comprises three sections; a receptacle 1 and a cover 2 provided with a tubular extension 3 which are placed in the cellar or underncath the kitchen floor. A hopper 4 is mounted in. the kitchen and is provided with a tubular extension 5, the lower end of which extends down through an opening 6- in the door and is adapted to telescope with the upper end of the extension 'lheroceptacle 1 preferably made of sheet metal or galvanized iron and may be of any size desired. The outer edge of the cover 2 is provided with a downwardly turned'tlauge 7 adapted to fit snugly over the upper edge of the, receptacle and hold the cover securely in place. A beading 8 is formed on the upper end of the. extension 3 so that when the cov'er is raised the bead ing will engage under the spring catches .9

I and hold the cover up while the receptacle is removed for emptying, said catches being secured to the band 10 which is mounted on the tubular extension 5 and disposed just beneath the floor;-

The hopper is supported by the standard 1 1 so that the same will be held in an up right position at all times. A cover 12 .is provided for the hopper having one side hinged to the hopper as shown-at l3 and catch member 14 secured to the other side to hold the same in a normally closed position. To prevent any odor from coming u. into the kitchen whenthe cover 12 is raised I provide a disk 15 which is arranged in the tubular extension 0 and hinged to the Wall of the extension by means 'of the spring huge 16 Wll'lCll is adapted to allow the disk to swing downwardly when any weight is dropped thereon, the spring on the hinge is adapted to normally hold the disk in a substantially horizontal position and the lug 17 prevents the disk fromswinging'upwardly. The cover 2 may be easily raised by grasping the handles 18 formed thereon.

From the above it will be seen that any garbage or waste from the kitchen may be dumped into the hopper 4 and conveyed directly into the receptacle 1 and as soon as the receptacle is fullthe cover is raised and thereceptacle removed for emptyin The spring on the hinge 16 is to be made of light material so that the disk 15 will easily swing downwardly when any small weight is placed thereon.

From the above it will be seen that I have provided a simple and efficient. huh-age receptacle whereby the waste from the kitchen may be disposed of in a sanitary manner.

lVhil I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obviousithat various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention I claim:
