To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, MARVIN E. QUANT, a citizen of the United States, residing atBuffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Storage-Casings for Refuse-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a casing or cabinet for storing refuse or garbage receptacles for the purpose of concealing the latter and also preventing scattering of any garbage which maybe placed in the same until the receptacles are removed from the casing by the collector.
It is the object of this invention to pro vide a casing for this purpose which is neat in appearance, which permits of readily placing the refuse receptacles within the storage space of the casing as well as the re moval therefrom when it is deslred to empty the receptacle, which permits of readily introducing the refuse or garbage into the receptacles while the same are in the casing and prevents the refuse 'or garbage from being scattered and which is so constructed that it is very durable and not liable to be afiected by the action of the weather.

This method of constructing the top, bottom, rear and side walls of the fixed part of the inclosing casing permits of readily manufacturing the same in the form of slabs. of concrete and assembling the same as required. When thus assembled these several concrete members forma storage space which is open on its front side and forms two compartments which are arranged: side by side and each of which is adapted ,to contain one garbage orrefuse receptacle. Above each of these compartments 'of the storage space the top of the casin is provided with an inlet opening 10 which is normally closed by means of a lid 11 of any suitable ma terial, preferably metal, this lid being pivoted on one side of its center to the top by means of a vertical pin 12 while that part on the opposite side of its center is detach.

Each of these turn buttons is preferably held in place frictionally by extending its pivot 28 inwardly or rearwardly through an opening in the upright bar and surrounding the inner part of this pivot by a spring 24.- which bears at one of its ends against the rear side of said bar and at its opposite end against a head 25 arranged at the rear end of the pivot pin, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
'When the platforms are turned so that the shutters are on the front sides thereof and secured to the upright locking bar the storage space of the casing is completely closed so that the refuse or garbage receptacles resting upon the platforms are concealed from view and access to the same cannot be hadby dogs or cats who would be liable to abstract some of the material from the receptacles and scatter it. The receptacles are, however, free to be filled with refuse or garbage through the openings in the top after swinging the lids to one side of said opening after which the latter may be again closed so as to prevent access to the receptacles at the top.
When it is desired to remove the receptacles from the storage casing for the purpose of emptying the same this can readily be done by releasing the turn buttons from the shutters and then turning the latter together with the platform so that the shutters are arranged in the rear part of the respective compartments and those parts of the platforms which are not covered by the shutters are presented to the front side of the storage space. In this position of the parts the receptacles can be readily removed from the platforms for emptying the same and again returned to the platforms preparatory to rotating the platforms and shutters for again inclosing the receptacles.
This storage casing can be produced at comparatively low cost inasmuch as it has no complicated parts, it is not liable to get out of order by exposure to the weather, it is neat in appearance, and can be readily washed and cleaned so that it is always in a sanitary condition.
I claim as my invention:
1. A storage casing for holding refuse receptacles, comprising a stationary section having a bottom, a rear wall, and a top provided with an inlet opening and separated from the bottom by a storage space which opens forwardly, and a movable section having a platform pivoted on said bottom to turn horizontally, and an upright shutter secured to one side of the margin of said platform andadapted to open and close the front side of said storage space, and an upright bar connected at its upper and lower ends With said top and bottom and adapted to he engaged by one edge of said shutter for arresting the movement of the same When turned into its closed position.
2. A storage casing for refuse receptacles, comprising a bottom, a rear Wall and a top forming part of the inclosure of a storage space which has its front side open, said top having an inlet opening, a rim on the upper side of the top around said opening and a supporting rib extending laterally from said rim, and a lid pivoted on the upper side of said top and adapted to engage said rim and rib in different positions.
