Description
Feb. 10,1970 K. H. SMEDLUND SACK HOLDER FbR REFUSE COLLECTION SACKS Filed Dec. 22. 1967 United States Patent 3,494,541 SACK HOLDER FOR REFUSE COLLECTION SACKS Kurt Henry Smedlund, Pilefeltsgatan 33, Halmsted, Sweden Filed Dec. 22, 1967, Ser. No. 692,810 Claims priority, application Sweden, Jan. 30, 1967, 1,290/ 67 Int. Cl. B65d 91/00; A63b 55/14 US. Cl. 23243.2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sack or bag holder for receptacles such as refuse collection sacks or bags, consisting of a supporting plate or disk forming the bottom of the holder. The holder includes a pair of arcuately-shaped halves forming, when placed together, a cylindrical container for the sack. One of the halves, constituting a stationary half, is provided at the top with a collar around which the upper portion of the mouth of the sack, is folded, and the second or movable half, when placed in co-operative relation with the stationary half, holds the top part of the mouth of the bag in fixed position. The movable half has a collar which co-operates with the collar on the first half to surround the bag and clamp the folded top part of the sack against shifting out of the holder.
The present invention relates to a sack or bag holder intended preferably, but not exclusively, for sacks used in connection with refuse collection and disposal, and the holder comprises a bottom plate or base and a casing which surrounds the sack and is provided at the top with means for securing the upper edge portion of the mouth of the sack or bag.
The invention is mainly characterized in that the casing of the holder is divided along a vertical plane into two curved halves of which one namely, the stationary half, is secured to the bottom plate and is provided at the top with a collar, around which the upper edge portion of the sack is adapted to be folded and locked by placing the other half of the holder in position. Said half is provided at the top with a collar which, when the two halves are brought together to form a casing surrounding the sack, engages the folded edge of the sack or bag and clamps it fast. In this manner, a sack holder is obtained which is simple to manufacture and easy to carry since the halves may be stacked one inside of the other. Furthermore, the sacks or bags may be exchanged rapidly and effectively, which is an important feature of the invention.
With these and other objects to be hereinafter set forth in view, I have devised the arrangement of parts to be described and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, in which an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed,
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the stationary half of the sack holder;
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of the movable or portable half of the holder;
FIGS. 3 and 4 respectively show the halves illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 in plan view, and
FIG. 5 is a cut-away view of the halves when the same are joined together to form the sack holder.
In the drawing 1 indicates a disk-shaped base plate forming the bottom or base of the holder and provided with supporting feet 2. A sack or bag 3 is supported and protected by a casing which surrounds the bag and which is of substantially cylindrical form and divided along a vertical plane into two curved or arcuate halves, of which that shown at 4 is attached to the base plate 1.
Pivotally connected to the top of said stationary half 4 is a semicircular collar 5. The other, or portable half of the casing is indicated at 6 (FIG. 2). This half 6 is provided at the top with a collar 7 which supports a hinged lid 8. The collar 7 represents at 9 and 10 two diametricallyopposed, inwardly-directed shoulders. Two opposing stop shoulders or lugs 12 are located on the half 6.
A filled sack or bag is removed and an empty one placed in the casing in the folowing manner: The portable half 6 is removed and placed to one side. The collar portion 5 is lifted up and the filled sack removed from the half 4, whereupon an empty sack is placed in position and the upper edge portion or marginal part of the mouth of the sack is folded around the upper edge of the half 4 and around the lowered collar portion 5. The half 6 is then lifted onto the half 4, until it reaches the position shown in FIG. 5. In this position the collar 7 will lie around the collar of the stationary half 4 and will rest with the shoulders 9 and 10 against the folded portion of the bag. The numeral 13 designates pivot pins around which the collar 5 rotates.
The half 4 which has been herein referred to as the stationary half, is naturally movable bodily or in itself but is normally intended to remain in place while only the half 6 is moved when efiecting a change of the sacks.
In order to hold the half 6 in position in relation to the half 4, the disk 1 may be fitted with a shoulder or flange engaging with the lower edge of the half 6.
As shown in FIG. 5, the vertical side edges of the half 6 over-lap the corresponding edges of the half 4 resulting in the casing becoming tight and a guide being obtained when mounting the half 6.
Having thus described an embodiment of the invention, it is obvious that the same is not to be restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A sack or bag holder, particularly adapted for refuse collection and disposal purposes comprising, a base, a casing surrounding a collection bag and having means adjacent to its top for securing the upper edge portion of the bag, said casing being divided along a vertical plane into two arcuate halves, the first of which is fixed to the base, one of the halves adjacent to its top being provided with a collar about which the bag is attached by folding over the upper edge of the bag, the second half of the casing being removable and being adapted to be lifted away from the first half during a bag-shifting operation, said second half being placed aside during the shifting process and thereafter replaced on the fixed half, the second half having a collar which, together with the first half, forms a casing enclosing the bag when the second or removable half is replaced, said collar gripping the folded edge of the bag and holding it in a locking grip, the collar for the fixed half including a semi-circular piece pivotally supported at its ends by the fixed half and by the vertical side edges of the movable half and the corresponding edges of the fixed half, the arrangement being such that when the halves are fitted together they overlap, the edges of the movable half overlapping the edges of the stationary half.
2. A sack holder according to claim 1, wherein the fixed half of the casing is provided adjacent to its side edges with radially projecting lugs to insure the proper placement of the movable half relatively to the fixed half.
3. A sack holder according to claim 1 wherein the collar for the movable half is provided with inwardly di-- rected shoulders which rest against the folded bag edges when the two halves of the casing are placed together.
4. A sack holder according to claim 1 in which the 3 movable half is provided with a hinged cover of a size to cover the upper ends of both of the halves of the casing.
5. A sack holder according to claim 1, wherein the Vertical side edges of the fixed half are overlapped by the corresponding edges of the movable half.
