955,109. Packaging machines. SOC. DES THES DE L'ELEPHANT. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 17, 1959; Sept. 13, 1960] No. 38891/60. Heading B8C. A machine for packaging tablets, filled bags, &c. 2 in pouches 1 having thermo-weldable mouths is characterized by a rotating turret 4, (Fig. 3), which supports open-ended pouchreceiving chambers 35 and has distributed around it four stations respectively for packing the bags into the pouches, the folding of the mouths of the pouches, the sealing of the pouches, and the removal of the sealed pouches. At the filling station (see Figs. 3 and 5) a pouch 32 is removed from the magazine 49 by a suction cup 10a which then co-operates with a further cup 11a to open it and place it over the end of a funnel 9. Simultaneously, fitted bags 37, stacked in a magazine 12 and resting on worms 39, are lowered by rotation of the worms on to a raised table 38, the number of revolutions of the worms corresponding to the number of bags lowered. Table 38 is then aligned with the bottom plate 14 of the funnel 9, and the stack of bags pushed by a ram 13 on to it. The plate 14 is raised to compress the bags and the funnel rotated through 90 degrees about a vertical axis (see Fig. 3). The plate 14 is lowered and the stack of bags is pushed through the funnel by a ram 15, and into a chamber 35 on the rotatable turret 4, carrying the pouch with it. At the mouth folding station (see Figs. 7 and 9), pivoted pairs of arms 16 enter the mouth of the pouch and move away from each other to hold the bag open and plates 18 move inwardly to push the adjacent pouch walls between the arms 16 to form bellow folds to close the mouth. Pivoted flaps 20, carried by the turret 4, close to maintain the mouth in a folded condition. At the sealing station (see Figs. 11 and 13), a label 56 is removed from a magazine 22 by a suction element 54 and placed over a plate 26 positioned adjacent the sealing jaws 23. A member 24 then pushes the label through a slot 26a in the plate 26 to position 56b between the jaws. Both the suction element 54 and plate 24 are withdrawn and movement of the turret positions portion 34 of the mouth of the pouch over plate 26. The portion 34 is pushed between the jaws by member 24, the jaws then closing and heat-sealing the mouth and label. At the discharge station flaps 20 open and wall 35a (Fig. 9) of chamber 35 pivots downwards to permit the pouch to slide down a shoot (Fig. 10, not shown).
