ODORLESS GARBAGE-CAN.
eeaoeo.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 28, 191?.
Application filed May 19, 1914. Serial No. 839,612.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES AUGUST BnRiNonn, a citizen of the United States,
residing at Bradley Beach, in the county of Monmouth, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Odorless Garbage-Cans; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to improvements in garbage receptacles.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a garbage receptacle which will prevent the escape of odors therefrom. 7
Another object is to provide a garbage receptacle which is sanitary, and which by reason. of its odorless nature can be kept in the house so as to obviate the necessity of a person leaving the house in bad weather to deposit garbage therein.
Another object is to provide a garbage receptacle of such construction that it cannot be opened by cats or dogs.-
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the garbage receptacle made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the .line 33 of Fig.2.
Fig. t is a bottom plan view with the upper portion of the receptacle removed.
Referring'particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents the main por tion of the receptacle. Engaged on the open top of the receptacle 10 is a flanged cover 11 in which is formed a square opening 12. Secured on the cover and surrounding the opening 1s a vertically extending rectangular casing 13, this. casing being.
slightly larger than the opening 12 and having a slot formed through the lower end of one of its walls directly above the cover, as indicated at 14. Slidably disposed through this slot and on the portion of the cover which projects inwardly of the casing 13 is a door 15, this door being provided with a suitable hand hold 16 to permit the same to be readily removed inwardly andoutwardly. Secured to the under face of the inner end of the sliding door is a stop flange 17 which engages with one wall of the opening 12 to limit the outward movement of the door 16. In the upper end portion of the same wall is formed another slot 18 through which is slidably disposed the door 19. The outer end of the door is turned downwardly as at 20 to form a hand hold for manipulating the door, while the inner end is turned upwardly as at 21 to act as a stop to limit the outward movement of the door. The side edges of the door 19 are guided between the parallel flanges 22 carried by the opposite side walls of the casing 13.
In the operation of the device, the door 19 is slipped open and the garbage deposited on the door 15. The door 19 is then closed and the door 15 pulled open. The upper wall of the slot 14: scrapes the garbage from the upper face of the door 15 and causes the same to fall into the receptacle 10. The door 15 is then pushed in. It will thus be seen that by the arrangement of these two doors, it is possible to deposit the garbage without uncovering the receptacle and permitting the odors therefrom to escape.
What is claimed is:
The combination with agarbage receptacle, of a substantially flat flanged cover detachably mounted on the receptacle and having an opening therein, a bottomless casing formed integral with the cover and surrounding the opening, said casing being larger in cross section than the opening and having a garbage receiving opening in the upper end wall thereof and parallel flanges at the sides of said opening, a sliding doortions of garbage from the said second door, In testimonywhereof, I affix my signasaid second door being shdably engaged on tnre, in the presence of tWo Witnesses. the cover and a flange on each of the doors CHARLES AUGUST BERINGER.
arranged for engagement with portions of Witnesses: V 5 the caslng to hrnlt the open movement of J. ASHLEY BROWN,
the doors. OTTO VOGEL.
