C. ADOLPHSON.
BUCKLE.
APPLICATION FILED JUNEz, 1912.
UNE
CHARLES ADOLPHSON, OF BLACKDUCK, MINNESOTA.
BUCKLE.
Application filed .Tune 28, 1912.
To all whom i may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES ADoLrHsoN, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Blackduck, in the county of Beltrami and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis inventio-n relates to improvements in buckles and its cbj ect is to produce a buckle of the class adapted to connect belts or retain the broken ends of a harness tug or trace.
Other objects are neatness, durability and general etliciency.
lith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following` specificat-ion, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of the specification and in which- Figure l is a top plan of my improved buckle shown connecting two belts or straps. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. l. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My buckle comprises a base l oblong in shape and formed with a central opening 2 therein to permit manual engagement of the belt ends. To the base l side pieces 3 which slope up toward the center of the base from either end are provided and are formed integral with a top piece 4 which is grooved longitudinally to form a seat for a strip 5 which is formed with tapered heels 6, 6 that project normally through apertures in the top piece 4 near either end. The strip 5 is formed of a flexible material and is secured to the top piece 4 by rivets 7 or otherwise. The ends of the top piece are recessed as at S adjacent either end of the strip 5 so that one end of the said strip may be manually raised out of the aperture when desired.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A110: 5,1913.
Serial No. 706,507.
9, 9 are wedge shaped blocks corrugated or nicked on either side and adapted for insertion between the top piece and the base of the buckle. To insert the ends of the strap or tug the buckle is inverted and the blocks then put in place and held there by the finger of the operato-r until the end of the strap is inserted beneath the block which will push the same up against the top of the buckle when the heel 6 of the strip 5 will engage its nicked surface and hold it in position, the opposite roughened cr nicked surface of the block pressing down upon the strap and preventing its withdrawal. WV hen it is desired to release the end of the strap the heel G may be withdrawn from the apertur-e in the piece 4 and the block drawn toward the opening 2 in the base.
wWhat is claimed is 1. In a buckle having a base formed with a centrally disposed opening, sloping side pieces secured to said base, an integral top piece provided with a longitudinal recess terminating in apertures in said piece, a strip seated in the recessed portion of said top pie-ce and formed with terminal heels adapted to project through the apertures of the said top piece and nicked wedge shaped blocks disposed between said top piece and base.
2. In a buckle having a base formed with a centrally disposed opening, sloping side pieces secured to said base, an integral top piece provided with a longitudinal recess terminating in apertures in said piece, nicked wedge shaped blocks disposed between said top piece and base, and flexible means seated in the recessed portion of said top piece and terminally engaging the said nicked wedge shaped blocks.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own l have hereto aliixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES ADOLPHSON. litnesses E. S. HERMANSON, E. B. Pinon.
