SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 342,110, dated May 18, 1886.
' Application filed November 1'7, 1885.
- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NILs J. KJELLs'rRoM, of East Cambridge, in the county of MiddleseX and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved buckle which is simple in construction and can be used to hold the ends of all kinds of straps, bands, 850.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Fign re 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved buckle on the line a 00. Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, parts being broken out and others being in section.
The plate A is provided in its uppersurface V with a series of grooves, B, parallel with the ends of the plate, and at the side edges it is provided with the upwardly-prejecting lugs or wings G, in which the shaft D is fixed, and on which shaft the cam-piece E is mounted to swing, the cam-piece being provided with the handle-wing F. The cam-piece E is provided in one or both ends with a recess, G, for receiving a spring, J, having one end secured on the end of the shaft D and the other or free end rested on the bottom of the corresponding recess, G, which springs or spring press the cam-piece E on the upper surface of the plate.
Serial No. 153,094. (No model.)
The surface of the cam-piece is provided with grooves L, parallel with the shaft D.
The plate A is provided at one end with the slot M, parallel with the end of the plate, and in said slot the end of the strap 0 is secured.
To hold the free end of the strap, the campiece E is raised, the strap is passed under it, and the cam'piece is released, and is pressed by its springs on the strap, and thus holds the strap securely.
Vhenever the strap is to be removed or loosened, it is only necessary to raise the campiece E slightly.
As the strain on the strap increases the strap is held more securely.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a canrlever buckle, the combination, with the plate A, having wings, of a shaft held on'said wings, the cam-piece E, mounted to turn on said shaft, and of springs secured on the shaft and pressing the cam-piece on the plate A, substantially as herein shown and de scribed:-
2. The combination, with the plate A, having wings, of a shaft held in said wings, the cam'piece E, mounted to swing on said shaft and provided with recesses in the ends, and of springs fastened on the ends of the shaft and resting on the bottoms of the said recesses, substantially as herein shown and described.
