FREDERICK W. WALTZ, OF .ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1, 1913.
Application filed March 22, 1912. Serial No. 685,437.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that, I, FREDERICK W. VVALTZ citizen of the United States, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in GasJets, of which the following is a Specification.
This invention relates to gas jet attachments and more particularly to attachments for wall brackets.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple. eflicient and cheaply constructed device of this character which may be conveniently and readily applied to an ordinary wall bracket so as to prevent the jet arm from being thrown into such a position that the flame would be held in dangerous proximity to the wall.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this appli cation, and in which Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a section through the bracket showing the attachment in rear elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a supporting wall and projecting therefrom is the ordinary gas bracket 2 upon which is pivotally connected 7 the jet arm 8. The attachment comprises a single strand of wire bent at its ends laterally, as shown at 4:, and then into depend ing loops 5 which are flared at their lower ends, as shown at 6, so as to conveniently engage over the bracket 2. Beyond the loops, the wire is bent so that its separate portions diverge as shown at 7 in Fig. 2.
At the end of the diverging portion of the wire, the separate parts are upwardly bent, as shown at 8, an equal distance to the thickness or depth of the arm 3 and are then bent rearwardlyon converging lines, as shown at 9, so as to surround the upper end of the pivot screw 10. The converging portions are integrally connected together in any suitable manner or the apex of the con- I vergence may be the middle portion of the wire and the terminals thereof may lie50 across the bracket 2 unconnected, The
loops 5 constitute bracket engaging-fingers which serve to hold thezdeviceiipon the bracket and the upwardly extending portions 8 constitute limiting stops which limit the movementofthe arm 3 and prevent it from being swung around so that the blaze from the gas tip would be in dangerous proximity to the wall.
It will be, clearly understood that while this device has been illustrated in its simplest form nany modifications may be resorted to inp ractice without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. For instance, the entire structure may be stamped out of sheet met-a1 and pressed into shape if found to be more desirable in practice.
lVha-t I claim as new is 1. An attachment for wall gas brackets comprising a single strand of wire having engaging fingers bent up therefrom and adapted to straddle the bracket, and diverging stop members connected together and forming a continuation of the fingers and adapted to limit the movement of the jet arm.
2. An attachment for gas wall brackets comprising bracket clamping arms, and diverging fingers secured thereto for limiting the movement of the jet arm.
3. An attachment for gas wall brackets comprising bracket clamping means. and diverging fingers secured ther-eto for limiting the movement of the jet arm in either direction.
4. As an article of manufacture. an at tachment for gas wall brackets comprising means secured to the bracket and extended into the path of the jet arm to limit the movement thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK W. \VALTZ.
