BROOM HOLDER.

Wilineaaeo UNITED STATES Patented. August 25, 1903.
CHARLES N. POLLOCK, OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI.
BROOM-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 737,472, dated August 25, 1903.
Application filed August 6,1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES N. PoLLooK, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Corinth, in the county of Alcorn and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to broom-holders; and the object thereof is to provide a cheap, simple, and durable bracket which may be readily attached to the wall or other support and receive the handle of a broom to retain it in a vertical position and hold the broomstraw out of contact with the floor, thereby lengthening the life of the broom by preserving the form.
With this object in View the invention consists in the peculiar construction to be specifically described hereinafter, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a broomholder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a rear view of the holder. The invention consists of a strand of wire of sufficient gage and possessing the requisite amount of spring, the strand being bent intermediate its ends to form a loop 1, which is,
formed by making a kink 2 and bringing the ends of the strand downward in avertical plane and then bending them outward on a horizon tal plane to form spring-arms 3 and 4. The strand is then curved outward in opposite relative relations to form coils 5 and 6, and after the convolutes of the coils are constituted the ends of the strand are carried on a lower horizontal plane, diverging for a portion of their length and then converging toward each other to form spring-fingers 7 and 8, the ends of which terminate in outwardlycurved hooks 9 and 10. It will be noticed that the arms of the loop 1 are closer together at the juncture of the loop with the arms 3 and at than at any other portion. The purpose of so constructing the device is to obviate or reduce the liability of the bracket becoming detached from engagement with its Serial No. 118,666. (No model.)
fastening device 11, which may comprise a headed screw and a washer 12. The purpose of bending the arms 7 and 8 outward and then inward is to practically close both ends of the jaw formed by the arms, so that intermediate the ends of the arms 7 and 8 wider space will be provided for the reception of the broom-handle, and the tendency of the handle will be to remain at a point adjacent the intersection of the converging and diverging portions, thus reducing the liability of an accidental displacement.
A device constructed in accordance with my invention may be readily formed from strands of wire without any additional parts other thana screw provided with a suitable head or washer, and it will thus be seen that a bracket constructed according to the method set forth in the above description will be cheap, durable, and efficient and will readily answer the purpose for which it is intended.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a broom holder comprising a bracket formed of a single strand of wire bent intermediate its ends, thence downward to form converging springarms brought together near their lower extremities, whereby a loop is formed with a restricted entrance, the strands being bent at right angles to the ends of the arms to form horizontal arms, thence outward in opposite relative position in the form of coils which are spaced apart from the vertical arms by the horizontal arms, thence in diverging relation for a portion of their length, then bent inward to converge toward their ends, whereby spring-fingers are formed for the reception of the broom.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES N. POLLO OK.
