CLARENCE A. BEST, OF FLOYD KNOBS, INDIANA.
BROOM-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. Best, a citizen of the United States, residing at Floyd Knobs, in the county of Floyd and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in holding devices for brooms and other articles, and the object of the invention is to construct a device of this character with a single strand of wire which may be easily and quickly attached to a support and which shall be cheap in construction, easy to manufacture and which shall accomplish its purpose with elliciency.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing: the figure is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
My improved clamp or holder is formed from a single strand of resilient wire of a suitable gage and includes a broom holder engaging jaw which is formed of two spaced arms 1 and 2 respectively, the said arms converging toward each other at their outer ends, and the said ends being bent or curved away from each other to provide what may be termed a flaring mouth, so that the broom handle may be readily inserted between the arms of the jaw. The arms 1 and 2 have their inner portions bent angularly in opposite directions to provide laterally extendin g members 3 and at, the membereunderlying the member 3, and the ends of both of the members 3 and i are coiled upon themselves as indicated by the numerals 5 and 6 respectively, the said coils being disposed horizontally with respect to the device when the same is in attached position, as illus' trated by the figure of the drawing. The end convolution of each of the coils is provided with an inwardly extending strand 7 and 8 respectively, the said strands 7 and 8 being arranged parallel with the strands 3 and l, but are positioned a distance below the said strands 3 and lequaling the thickness of the coils 5 and 6. The strands 7 and 8 are centrally twisted and extended downwardly, as indicated by the numeral 9, and the twisted portions between the said mem- Specification of Letters Patent.

bers at a suitable distance below the'members 7 and 8 are open to provide an eye 10 the device to provide a hook l0, and the end I of the strand 8 is continued in an opposite downward and angular direction and is twisted upon the strand 7 to provide a second hook 11, the backs of the hooks extendmg upwardly toward the jaw, and the said hooks are'spaced a suitable distance away from each other so that each of said hooks may serve as a support for a dusting cloth or other device. I
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A device as described constructed of a single strand of wire comprising a longitudinally extending jaw formed from the end strands of the wire, the said jaw comprising two arms which are curved toward each other adjacent their ends and which have their ends curved outwardly in opposite directions, the inner ends of the arms being bent laterally in opposite directions one overlying the other, and the ends of the said lateral extensions being coiled, the end convolutions of the coils having end extensions which are arranged parallel with the first men tioned extensions, the said last mentioned extensions being coiled upon themselves in an angular direction and approximately at a right angle to the jaw, the last mentioned coils forming an eye and one of the said coils being bent upon itself to provide an angularly disposed hook, the end strand of the said jaw being arranged below the eye and coiled upon the second strand to provide a second angularly disposed hook.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
