NITED TATJES' GEORGE W. NORTON, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
PLAQU E-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,976, dated July 3, 1900.
Application filed August 14, 1895. Serial No. 559,300. (No model.)
ton, in the county of Suffolk and State of Mas sachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plaque-Holders, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification.
The object of this improvement is to have a plaque-holder which is easily applicable and adjustable to varying sizes and shapes of plaques, to securely hold the said plaques in any position to or upon a surface, and to show the least amount of the plaque-holder when the plaque is thus held in position.
The invention consists in the features and details of construction herein described and claimed.
The figure is a perspective view of my improved plaque-holder.
Like figures in the drawing represent like parts.
The rod 3 is constructed with a rod having an eye at one end, a helix along its middle portion terminating in a coil, from which extends the wire 11 and with the said coil forms a swivel-joint 9, the outer end of the said wire terminating in a hook. The wires 1 2, each constructed with ahook at one end,are crossed near their center at an angle of not over one hundred and twenty degrees and firmly connected by the wires 4 5, each of which is constructed with a loop 7 6, respectively, which incloses the rod 3 and operates therewith in the manner as follows: The loop 7 of the connecting-wire 4: is formed at an angle longitudinally parallel to a pitch-line of the helix 8, encircling either diverging line of the said helix and having one part between the said diverging lines engaging therewith after the manner of a screw and nut. The loop 6 of the connecting-wire 5 incloses the straight outer end to inclose the object to be held, the
rod 3 having a loop or eye at its shorter end, by which the object thus held may be sus- Y pended.
The connecting-wire 5 and the free ends of the wires 1 2 may be bent to hold the inclosed object at any angle to or upon a surface which may be required. I
To apply my improved plaque-holder, the books of the wires 1 2 and extension 11 of the rod 3 are placed over the object to be held, then turn the upper portion of the rod 3 in the loops 6 7 in such a manner as to draw the aforesaid hooks firmly upon the object to be held.
Having herewith described my improvement in plaque-holders, what I claim as my invention is- The combination of the rod 3, the wires 1 2, the wires 4 5, the loops 6 7 and the wire 11, the wires 4 5 connecting the wires 1 2 and each constructed with a loop, the loop of the wire 5 inclosing the upper portion of the rod 3, the loop of the wire 4 inclosing the helix of the rod 3 and serving as an engaging piece, the rod 3 consisting of a straight rod at its upper portion, its middle portion in the form of a helix, terminating in a coil, with which the extending wire 11 forms a swivel-joint.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 8th day of August, A. D. 1895.
GEORGE W. NORTON.
