D AjJ'FAc PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. espinacas ala mmner i7, 19121 sriai No. 738,953.
Patented May 13, 191 :5.
To ZY 'ZIJ/wm 2.15 may concern it known that. l, naar Miiotnn, a citizen of the United States, residing. at
fills Point,- in the coiiiity of Van Zandt and State? of- Texas, have invented certain vnew and useful Improvements in Hd and Face Protectors, of which the fllwing yis a specification, reference being ha'd td the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in head and face protectors and more particularly to a device for pro; tocting the head and face from the cold, rain, dust and the' like and the primary ob ject of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be most efiicient in carrying out the object for which the same is designed.
n A further object of the inventionresides 1n providing a substantial hood of water proofmaterial adapted to be disposed over ,the head of the wearer'y and engaged with the over-coat or top coat of the wearer, and a still further object of the invention resides in providing an improved means for securing the device to the head so as to prevent the same from being disengaged when being worn in heavy storms.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very ellicient in operation.
" 'W ith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrange; ment ot parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the protector with partsbroken away to show the engaging straps thereon; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section as seen on line 2-2, Fig. 1.
In' describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate-corresponding parts throughout the several views and in whichfl indicates a hood designed in the form of a sack or the like and formed oi waterproof material, the saine being-composed ot' a plurality of gores which are stitched or otherwise secured together to complete the device. These gores meet at the' upper central portion of the hood and at this poition of the device, an inner beil 2' is secured on the inner 'face thereof, while a buttn or' the like 3 is secured on the ycuter face of the saine and hformed in' one of the goies of the hood adjacent the top portiontheredf is an enlarged opening which is covered by a transparent pane 4,
, for.`sght purposes.
Secured under the strengthening piece 2 are the elastic chin straps 5 which are adapted to extend underthe wearers chin and be secured together through the medium of any desired engaging means for that purpose and also secured 'to the inner face of the hood on opposite sides of the member 3, and,
below the same on the rear wall, are the body. straps 6. These straps 6 are adapted to be disposed under the arms of the wearer,v
the same being provided with hooks on the ends thereof which, when drawn upwardly strengthenuig minin the front of the body are adapted to be engaged with eyes 7 on the front wall of the hood at opposite sides of the sight opening4 therein. Also secured to the inner 'face of the hood on the sides and rear wall thereof are the additional straps 8, the ends of which are provided with hooks 9 adapted to engage eyes on the4 wearers top coat, whereby the lower portion of the hood may be held thereto.
In applyingr the device to use, the saine is first disposed over the head of the wearer andthe straps 5 disposed in engagement with the lchin of' said wearer. The body straps 6 are then drawn .under the armsof the wearer and engaged in the eyes 7 and the hooks 9 of the straps 8 are then engaged with the coat ot the wearer. Equipped-with such a device, engaged in the manner described, the wearer may then brave any storm and as the device is entirely waterproof, his head and face will be protected 'against all elements incident thereto.
From the foregoing itwill be seen that l have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention and while l have partielllarly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details ot' construction may he resorted t'o without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any ot the principles of the invention.
